The very first thing I would recommend you do is to take the time and expense to take an holiday in Australia, for at least two weeks, ideally, for a month, and make certain that you are making a decision you can live with. Use the time to accomplish three tasks: first: make friends second: find a job and third: have a great vacation.
Then: Apply for a permenant visa through a qualified solicitor or immigration agent.
When the visa is issued, find a home and start the new job! Good luck. Remember that Australia is a large country, choose the city you want to live in carefully, and make lots of friends there. They will be the key to a successful tranisition for you. Most of all, remember to become an Aussie! If you want to live in Australia, live as an Aussie, not as a visitor.

Contact your nearest Australian embassy and find out what points and qualifications you need to emigrate and all visa information. It helps greatly if an employer in australia or a family member living there can write a letter vouching for you. You need police clearance as far as I know. The embassy will be able to tell you everything. You could also do a Google search "emigrating to Australia" and it should come up with some helpful websites for you to look at. Good luck.

If you are under 45, good health, no criminal record (things like parking tickets and speeding fines don't count) you will probably get in. The fact that you write English is a big thing in your favor. Why not contact an Australian consulate, addresses and web sites on the net, or the Department of Immigration and Citizenship. You will need a passport and probably a visa too. Plenty of work in all facets of mining and construction. Some of the large country towns are good places to live.
