I have a cat that sheds like crazy, and we gave him a special old blanket to lay on and now it's covered with hair, and I want to get it clean somehow. Not sure how to proceed, any suggestions would be welcomed.

Your vacuum might help, too, but you'll want to do that OUTSIDE so the cat fluff doesn't fly around and get on everything else.

I used to get that all the time with my old cat on her special blanket. I just threw the blanket into the washer and dryer by itself. Removes virtually all the fur. I found that using the low heat cycle on the dryer got more fur off. Be sure to clean your lint filters afterwards. I have not previously run into problems of cat hair deposit on the next load, but if that is a concern, wash something like a load of jeans.

This is an ongoing problem at my house, 4 cats. Just wash it, alone then put it in your dryer with a softening sheet, like Bounce. The hair won't all come off in the washer but a huge amount will come off in the dryer and you can just retrieve it from the lint trap and dispose of it. If it is still has a lot of hair on it, you can do a second rinse and dry.
This is the most efficient method I have found.

Toss the blanket in the dryer with a few dryer sheets for a while. It will toss most of the hair off the blanket first. Then put it in the washer for the full cycle and then dry it. I do that for pretty much all my blankets and all the animals blankets before washing and it seems to work.

A small handi vac that packs some power will work then go over the rest with a roller. I'd wash it (by it self) afterward (maybe twice depending on what's left.) If it's down your best bet is to vac, roller, dry cleaner.

The handi vac I have is a "shark" cordless I got it from best buy for I think around $40.

Also brushing your cat a couple times a week will help to eliminate a good portion of the hair. I used to get enough hair off one of my cats to make another cat!

A damp sponge works very well, as does a damp paper towel. Also a surgical latex glove serves quite well, just put the glove on your hand, and keep wiping the glove over the area to be cleaned, and then after you have gotten most of the fur off, you can throw it in the washer, and dryer. Also now that spring is here and the birds are building nests, you can throw the hair that you get out of your dryer outside, and the birds can use it for lining their nest with.

Go to a shop like go-lo or the warehouse and pick up a roll of 2 inch sticky tape and tear off big strips, lay on the blanket and start stripping. Better off keeping the cat off it., it does'nt care how much crap is stuck all over your blanket, but your washing machine will.

I've had to deal with that. First, you will want to vacuum the blanket (carefully!) with a brush attachment. That will remove a lot of the excess fur. Then wash it and dry it, and make sure to wipe out the inside of the washer with a paper towel because otherwise your next load of laundry will get fur all over it.

Most stores carry a brush in the cleaning dept. (where you find shavers for sweaters and laundry det) It has red velvet on it and can be used to brush off hair. I use mine daily. In a pinch, you can use duct tape or any kind of tape to pick it up, but that could get expensive, if you do it a lot.

You could try to vacuum the blanket or use duct tape to get the majority or the hairs off.
