The plus for carpeting in the bathroom is it is warm on the feet.
The negatives is that you do not have to like it. You will be replacing it often. A bathroom is where some of the things you do often make a mess on the floor. You want a floor that cleans easily and disinfects easily. Carpet does neither. It also retains moisture leading to mildew and other things growing in it. Carpet is nice but not in the bathroom.

Definitely too much. Boys have a tendancy to "shake" the last drop off... which means your carpet will become a sponge and sooner or later, you won't be able to get rid of the urine smell without removing the carpet, the undercarpet and sometimes, even the wood floor... And think about this: the first time the toilet gets blocked and overflows, your carpet will suck all that up... Same theory if the tub overflows. It's never a good idea to put wall to wall carpet in a bathroom.... You'd be better off putting in ceramic or porcelain tile and using throw rugs (which are much easier to wash if the boys shake on them... :)

The first time the toilet overflows you will be sorry you put in wall to wall carpet. Bathrooms are a bad place for carpets anyway, they absorb moisture and then it sits, it can be a haven for mold and mildew, and wet carpet over time can damage your floor. You would be better off putting down tile and using bathroom rugs or maybe a small area rug depending on the size of the bathroom.

If there is a room/ bathroom below and the floor is not of concrete cement mortar but of timber/ wood,, better to have wall to wall easy to clean carpet cover with four sons around. If the bathroom is of cement concrete or there is no room or basement below, better to go in for good tiles only.

yes, its too much.
Men and boys are (under usual circumstances) extremely messy if not gross. The bathroom especially, I would never put carpet that you cannot throw in the wash machine, Unless you plan on changing out the bathroom carpet every year or two. The urine smell would get to be too much.

You are kidding right? You cant put carpet in a bathroom.....that's a terrible idea. Kids cant aim and the carpet will also trap moisture from the shower. It will either be stinky from stains or could get moldy, if you cant afford tile then go with a vinyl or laminate

Wall-to-wall carpet in a bathroom is a bad idea: It would get wet and mildewy in no time under the best of circumstances. You would be better off using a tile floor and little floor mats where you need them.

No way would I install carpeting in a bathroom, especially with 4 guys. Too many health and cleanliness reasons.

I have to say, I agree with all the other answers. I don't like carpeting period in any room but especially not in the bathroom.
