In case you don’t know he is the one that contributes very little to ANYTHING! At least John Paul would lend a hand to charities and impoverished nations

John 21:15-17 states:

When they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, "Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?" He said to him, "Yes, Lord, you know that I love you." He said to him, "Feed my lambs."

He then said to him a second time, "Simon, son of John, do you love me?" He said to him, "Yes, Lord, you know that I love you." He said to him, "Tend my sheep."

He said to him the third time, "Simon, son of John, do you love me?" Peter was distressed that he had said to him a third time, "Do you love me?" and he said to him, "Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you." (Jesus) said to him, "Feed my sheep.

Matthew 16:17-19 states:

Jesus said to him in reply, "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah. For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my heavenly Father. And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it. I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven. Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven."

The Catholic Church believes the Lord made Simon alone, whom he named Peter, the "rock" of his Church. He gave him the keys of his Church and instituted him shepherd of the whole flock.

Pope Benedict XVI is the senior pastor of 1.1 billion Catholics, the direct successor of Simon Peter.

The Pope’s main roles include teaching, sanctifying, and governing.

With love in Christ.

2000 years, and you want to change things now? There has always been a pope, and will (as long as there is catholicism) always be one. Really Catholics don't follow him, they follow Jesus. The pope is just the earthly head of the church. Actually, considering some of the very horrible popes that have existed in the past, you should not complain about one who is more quiet. Look at some of the past popes including Pope Leo X, Pope Alexander VI, Pope Clement VII, Pope Urban VI, and Pope Benedict IX among others.

People will always follow something, the Israelites made a idol of gold a calf to worship and to follow when moses went into the mountains. It appears people seem to need icons or idols to see to reinforce their faith. the bible says to stay away from such things.

Why does anyone follow anyone. Why do fundies rail about sin and homosexuals and follow the likes of Ted Haggard who was homosexual himself and had a meth problem

I think it's more of a silly headdress - it's a silly miter, to be precise, but I don't think everything you put on your head is a hat. It's not a silly tiara, that's for sure.
