We live in Bangkok, Thailand and it's very hot humid. My dogs are feed a mixture of Pedigree and cooked carrots twice a day and they eat alot of different fruits and vegetable. I have consulted several vets here and they all tell me the same thing, "they is nothing I can do but give them a vitamin each day" , which does not help.
What can I do?

there is nothing you can do for shedding... this is a natural thing that spaniels do.
You can brush them every day to get rid of some of the fur, and this might help a little.... but there isnt much else you can do. You could try having their coats groomed shorter - this might help with the heat too.

however...
im worried you are feeding them too much vegges. Does your vet know you feed them this??
also - fruit. stop feeding them fruit unless its for a treat. dogs do not need fruit and the high sugar content can be bad for their health as well as their teeth.

dogs are carnivores - meat eaters. while the vegges in dry or wet dog food can be good for them, feeding them extra on a daily basis is NOT.
They are dogs, not humans. They have a completely different dietry requirements. They will not use the vitamins in the vegges you are giving them so you may as well be feeding them cardboard.

stop feeding them vegges. a small amount once a week or as a treat on occassion is more than enough.

dogs get all the vitamins they need from a good quality dry or wet dog food and raw meat and bones - if you are not feeding them enough meat and a dogs diet, then the shedding could be increased from lack of the correct vitamins. This is probably why the vet told you to try vitamin tablets.

Of course there are other options! First, be sure you are brushing them at least 4 times a week, throughly. Then after they are brushed out, take them to a groomer and get them shaved down a bit. Not real short, but a nice haircut. This will cut down on the shedding a lot. They have a thick coat so you are going to have to continue to brush and have them trimmed on a regular basis. They are shedding BECAUSE you live where you do!

They don not need all the fur to keep warm and have no 4 seasons to go by to devolop a winter coat and then shed to a ummer coat like most dogs who live in 4 seasons.

I'm sure you'll hear a lot of different answer to this one, but the only way to really reduce the amount of hair on your floor is to brush them everyday. The great part is that many dogs love being brushed and it's a good way to bond. Since cocker spaniels are high maintenance dogs in the way of grooming you should be doing this everyday anyway. On a side note, you should really feed your dog something better than Pedigree. Try Science Diet, Iams, Nutro, Eukanuba, or another top-rated food. I use Nutro personally but it's up to you.

Try your local pet store for a comb designed for a double coated dog. Daily grooming will cut down on the shedding considerably. This can also be a very pleasurable experience for you and your dogs, a double coat comb will not pull at the skin, will go easily thru tangles, and rid them of alot of the undercoat. This will not only help with the shedding, but your dogs will be more comfortable.

1. Comb them daily
2. You might try trimming their fur, or having it thinned
3. Make sure they are not suffering from a skin disease, allergic reaction to food, treats, grass, parasites
4. Try adding a little olive oil or vegetable oil to their food daily
5. Make sure you use a ph balanced shampoo and they are rinsed thoroughly. Comb just before the bath.
We live in Tampa, Florida, and also fight humidity. So far these tips have worked for my golden retriever and long haired cats. Also, be sure they drink plenty of water.

Shave them down so they are cooler for one thing. And there is not much you can do about shedding. Brush them often so you have more control of where all the excess fur goes! I would recommend getting a Furminator - its a type of brush, it works wonders!!! Google it and order one online. Good luck!
