I love a good and classic Greek myhtology riddle. It was asked by the Sphinx to Oedipus.
In Oedipus's words: "It is man. When it is a baby, it crawls on four legs. When he is a young man, he walks on two legs. When he grows old, he walks on two legs and a walking cane, therefore equaling three legs." In despair that somebody had solved her riddle for the first time, she threw herself off of a cliff and humans were free to go in and out of Thebes.
