I had Nero StartSmart on my computer. I was trying to get a newer version so I could burn off my dvd's to watch in the dvd player. When I was uploading a newer version of nero - it told me that i had an old version and that it needed to be uninstalled, so I agreed. The next message that popped up was that I needed a serial number to continue - didn't have one - now I have no Nero Startsmart on my computer. Don't have the disc because it was on my computer when I bought it. Any suggestions on where I can get a free version of something that is capable of burning of dvd's and now I need some thing to burn my cd's off too. PLEASE SOMEONE HELP ME WHO KNOWS HOW!!!!! Thanks.

You probably had the OEM Nero software. My LG DVD writer came with a CD with that software.

Windoze XP itself can burn data discs, but it is better to use a 3rd party burner because they have more features. You can try the one from the link below:

P.S.
Don't buy that Nero 7 application suite. You can get better components (like the sound recorder part) from other places. On top of that, upgrading is just stupid. Upgrading within the program doesn't work, and on top of that, their file servers are very slow and don't allow file resuming. This is unfortunate, considering that you are actually downloading a whole new package that's 200 megabytes in size. The only way around it is to wait until another web site like AfterDawn.com gets the new software and download it from there. Then you have to remove your old package and re-install the new one (and re-enter your serial number).
After that, you have to download and install the help files.
Sheesh...

http://nero.com you can get the down load. I would go in and get dvddecryter and dvd shrink they work together and make it easy and let you use the -r or +r disc that nero wont.I use it all the time for my dvd's. www.dvddecrypter.com www.shrink3.2.com Good luck, can be emailed for more help.
