With so much other bad stuff happening, they do not have time to handle other stuff like noisy cars and motorcycles.

However...

The cops in my town (actually mostly the police chief) would rather hassle and write tickets for people parking on the grass in their own yard (yeah they have an ordinance for this) than stop the truckers who drive past my house at twice the posted speed limit (it is both a residential and school district). For our chief, I think he should change his name to Chief Wiggums. (Go figure...the name of this town long ago was Springvale...sorta close to the name of that 'other' place.)

Motorcycle exhaust systems are within the legal noise limit. It's when the throttle is opened that the sound gets louder. Actually, the exhaust system on a motorcycle has become quieter over the years. When a cars exhaust is loud, it's because it has been modified, or it's rusting out. These violations are enforced. Now that you mention it. Someone shortly will email in, and say " This is BS, I just got a ticket for a loud muffler. Don't the Police have anything else better to do?. How can I beat this ticket?." Sometimes, you just can't win!.

Every jurisdiction has excessive noise laws and it's up to the local police to enforce them. This is what they are paid for ( keeping the peace ). Atleast go after the worst offenders like the knobs that open the throttle on their motorcycles and cars with illegal exhausts at 2am waking folks in their homes who have to get up for work and pay all kinds of taxes to support police services and just about everything else going on. Is this really a problem to stop some of these individuals who obviously couldn't care less about others and don't have the common sense to go easy on the throttle in the early hours on residential streets and have a little consideration for others. Is this not why there are noise laws to preserve the peace ?

If you force the closure of all donut shops you will have a start.

Seriously, there are only so many cops. It is infuriating when you can't sleep, or 43,219 drives cut you off in the mile and a half you have to drive to work. The chief of police sets the priorities for the officers under him/her and may not see it as a problem. After all they probably aren't disturbing his sleep. My real complaint is not being able to get a cop and not being allowed to protect my own property.

Did you hear about the guy in California who shot one of three men trying to steal his car. It was the 8Th try in 5 months or the 5Th try in 8 months. He couldn't get the cops to respond until he defended his property. He went to jail, the wounded thief went to the hospital and, as far as I know, the other two thieves are still on the loose. The same night an off duty cop shot and killed a man in her home. One on one and a trained officer had to put two rounds into a guys head (under the law that's OK). Three on one and a home owner wounds somebody and goes to jail. Something is upside down and I think it's more the laws than the cops.

You should have heard the Law Enforcement Big Wig trying to respond to audience questions. He spent three hours trying to make right into wrong and wrong into right. But in fairness that is the way the law is written.

This fiasco may have the affect of changing some laws. At least we can hope.

We need to enforce our current immigration laws and policies. And speed up the process for those trying to enter the US the correct way. The laws are on the book to be enforced if they are not it should become a legal issue with the courts. If officials won't uphold the law who will, then they should come up with a way to speed the process of paperwork for entry into the US.

They are not able to do much about the noise unless the vehicle is fitted with an un-road worthy exhaust. some of which omit extreme amounts of noise. Unfortunately some of these noisy exhausts are road legal.

the way to deal with this is KEEP A DIARY, NAMES, DATES, TIMES, VEHICLE DETAILS etc. although a long drawn out process, this is the only way to combat the noise, the council with your evidence (diary, video, tapes etc) can take the car off the road,

Think long and hard before you take this approach, if these people are your neighbours, you are stuck with them weather you like it or not you may be able to get rid of the car, but it is more difficult to get rid of the people too, and they could make your life hell after you get there vehicle seized.

Police aren't omnipresent-- it'd be creepy if they were!

In order for them to respond to a noise complaint, somebody has to call them, preferably with the direct line, NOT 911, as obviously no one is in danger. Unfortunately, a noisy vehicle will move, so chances are by the tiem they show up it's too late.

They do in Daytona.
I wish they'd enforce the 'slower traffic keep right' rule instead!

My guess is it is hard to catch them if someone calls in with the time that passes in between.

Also, I think they tend to be busy and concerned with more serious crimes.
