Open4one hit the nail right on the head with his answer. Not many other people realize (because the mainstream media won't/doesn't cover it) but Mars is also warming up!!! Despite this, the likes of Al Gore, at el. continue to claim that the earth's warming is of mankind's own fault.
Oh, wait, maybe the earth's carbon load is being shifted to Mars, and that's why their icecaps are melting (instead of any other plausible explanations - like cyclical effects, perhaps the sun has something to do with it...)

I'm glad you agree that reducing CO2 emissions is important! Though I would add that the science of offsets really involves only elementary arithmetic. If you put one cup of water into a glass, and then take one cup out, you haven't changed the water level. While going about our lives, we tend to add carbon to the atmosphere. Offsets simply reduce the carbon that's produced elsewhere to compensate for what you add. They will never solve the problem by themselves, but they're not worthless either. By the way, I know you were looking for the cheap insult instead of the honest answer, but there are too many cheap insults on this board already.

This whole buying of carbon credits thing is the stupidest thing to occur to Man since paying the Pope for a Special Dispensation of a Mortal Sin.
In theory, it goes to a broker who pays someone else to pollute less, keeping a commission for the service.
In practice, it probably stays with the broker, who buys himself a new SUV or Lear Jet.
Even if it worked according to the theory, the end result would be to provide an influx of capital into a third world economy, and with that money they would want to build factories, buy hairdryers and such to improve their quality of life.
The best thing that people who are really concerned about the CO2 levels could do to alleviate the problem would be to hold their breath. For about a week.

Don't you pay any attention? It is not hypocrisy when a democrat does it. Besides, carbon credits prove that if you are rich you can do whatever you want regardless of your party.
Since most of the Gore family money has always been in the Yemeni oil fields owned by Occidental Oil can we now add the fact that he is part of the "big oil" that is causing the greenhouse gasses?

'gorebal' climate change, and the resulting entrepreneurial genius of carbon 'offsets' or credits, is the biggest scam of the 21st century...so far at least, and big al looks like he's going to get away with it. though there is no 'consensus' as all those scientists with opposing views keep pointing out, they are being systematically marginalized and the debate squelched so as to force environmental socialism down our throats. i simply cannot believe that there isnt more outrage about this.
look at it this way; if i were to rape someone and then i contribute money to a rape crisis center, that does NOT make me rape neutral now does it? of course not!
carbon credits or offsets are the exact same thing...in reality all this is, is a license to pollute...a carbon indulgence if you will and i cant stand the thought of al gore getting away with this.
PLEASE!!! someone stop the madness!

If all that he says occurs to stop Global Warming, Nobody in the United States will have a job, they will all simply move overseas. Then what? I don't see any of them trying to further promote alternatives to what we use and they all have their money stuck in Big Oil and all the polluters, including Gore. What a sham! Nobody ever stops to think these are natural occurances and changes.

I am glad a politician is generating awareness of the global warming issue, but I have to agree with your comment. It is very disingenuious to spout one thing and do another. He is an energy hog and while his message is extremely important it is difficult to take him seriously because he doesn't walk his talk in his personal energy consumption. The only politician who really seems to walk his talk is Jimmy Carter.
