Christian what are you doing for the least of these little ones?

What a great question for Easter morning. Jesus taught us to feed the hungry and visit the sick. We are to care for those who are downtrodden and oppressed. All of us are to serve, just as Jesus served us. I try to give generously and I do volunteer work with local charities.

I am doing everything that I can, aware of what the Lord told us to do. But Jesus also said:"Don't let your left hand know what your right hand does" (Mt.6, 3-4). So not only do I refuse to talk about such deeds, but try to forget them myself, once I did them. It's not legitimate to do acts of charity with the purpose of satisfying your own conscience. One should do them out of love and because of the love the Lord has for them. Anyway, I am just an useless servant...

At Matthew 25:37-40, Jesus speaks of the least of his brothers. "And in reply the king will say to them, ‘Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’”

In order to do good to the 'least of his brothers,' one must first determine the identity of his brothers, yes?

Mark 3:35: "Anyone who does the will of God, that person is my brother and sister." Clearly then, every single human being is not a brother and sister of Christ - only those who do the will of God.

Now in the account in Matthew, above, Jesus is obviously addressing a group who will be placed on either his left or his right, depending on how they treat his brothers. They themselves are not identified with his brothers. Yet they have the opportunity of being placed on his right - with a view to everlasting life.

What Jesus said helps us understand there are two distinct groups involved here. It is vital that we correctly identify both.
