My dog has bad hips. Many veteranarians perform massage therapy on dogs on their joints.

Please do not attempt deep tissue massage on your dog - there is a reason people have to receive proper training to do this, you can't learn it over the internet.

The massage technique described by the previous poster is fine. Anti-inflammatories and supplements are the most common and effective way to treat chronic arthritis.

Never try to perform deep tissue massage on an animal if you're not trained to do it. You can cause severe damage to the joints and muscles.
You can do a soft massage. Don't worry about pressure points. Lie your dog down in front of you with his back towards you. Begin at the shoulders and gently massage the back from the shoulders to the hips. Then do each of his legs, you might have to make him roll over once you're finished one side. Lastly do his neck.
I've been doing my boy since he was young, he has Osteo-arthritis. He absolutely loves it. And when I tell him, 'that's all', he wiggles like a pup and rolls onto his back. Then it's up and play time.
Enjoy the more gentle form of massage and you won't give yourself other problems to worry about.
