Best way is to rent a car. Woodbury Common Outlets is in Orange County, NY, about 40 miles from Newark and Manhattan. The Woodbury Common is off of Route 9W in New York.

Secacus has some premium outlets(there used to be a Gucci outlet there, not sure if it still there) Jersey Gardens is sort of middle of the road.(Nautica etc) Bergen Mall on rt 4 has some nice outlet shops, Century 21, Off 5th (saks outlet) Filenes. These are all much closer than woodbury. There is a bus on 7th ave and 33st that goes to woodbury.

If you take a cab, you'll be looking at a CRAZY high fare! Consider a car service - some do day trips for a lot less than a cab. If you rent a car and drive, it will be cheaper still. There's also Coach USA Buses that run from NYC to the Commons all day, every day.

The commons are kind of far from the city. I would suggest renting a car b/c a cab will be alot of $$
