If there is green pus coming out, the wounds are already infected. Tail wounds are also particularly bad in a cat, as the tail is part of their spine.
Going to the vet is always an option, and should be the first one. Your cat needs to be seen, so please find some money, or a shelter/charity that can help you out. Cleaning on the surface is not going to be enough now the wound is infected, it needs to be deep cleaned under surgical conditions, and she'll need antibiotics. Cats never seem to be in any pain unless they're about to die, they're masters of hiding pain, as a survival strategy. It is also very hard to tell if the pellets are out, they can go too deep to be visible on examination.
As to whether it's legal to shoot cats or not - no it isn't, as it's considered cruelty to animals. If you know who did it, get the RSPCA/SPCA on to them, or even the police.
Vets please - you say your cat is like one of your children, and I'm sure you'd go to a hospital right away if one of your children had been shot!

Hey Brandon,
The puss coming out of the wound means it's already infected. While neosporin isn't harmful to cats, it won't prevent further infection at this point.
It's also kind of impossible to tell "online" just how badly the BB damaged the cat's tail and what the proper medication should be for it.
What I can* tell you is that your cat will most likely need antibiotics orally or via injection. Trust me .. you don't want to let the wound abcess because this will cost you 5x as much for not solving the problem quickly and efficiently.
I understand that you may be tight on money but if you talk to a few veterinarians and explain your situation, you will find a few willing to work out a payment plan with you.
To answer your other question:
Yes it is illegal and considered animal abuse to shoot a cat with a BB gun. You can also report this to the SPCA if you know who did this to your cat. Even if you don't, you may want to report it anyway (it could be someone in the area that they may find).
It's also illegal and considered animal neglect to NOT provide your pet with veterinary care when needed.
Hope this helps!

If there is green pus coming out that's a sign of infection.
She really should be seen by a Vet so that the infection doesn't spread.
If money is tight right now, call the Vet and explain what happened to your cat and that you're short on money.
Most Vets will set up a payment plan for you.
Good luck, I hope kitty gets better soon.

You can't just not take her to the vet she is probably in pain and it might be swolled. They'll probably need to give her inflamation ointment or an inflamation shot and antibioticts. Maybe you could ask some of your family members to help pay. Someone shot my dog in the spine and he had to be put to sleep because he was paralyzed. It hurt me when my dog died. I cried and cried forever and I don't want that to happen to you and your kids. So I would suggest you take him to the vet. I have had many animals and taken many to the vet and I am just rougly estimating that the price will be about 60-70 bucks. My vet charges 30 bucks to just see your patient and the inflamation shots are about 35-40! Good luck I hope she'll be okay and Happy Easter!!

I took my cat to the vet this morning. The vet said it was shot with a pellet gun.my neighbor has chickens and doves in his backyard and his illegal alien stepson has a pellet gun. I caught him shooting at birds one time and told him that it was illegal to fire any type of gun within city limits including BB guns. I also said that i would wipe his ***. I have a feeling he shot my cat because my might have been poking around their chickens but it'll be hard to prove.

The green puss means that it is infected. It will cost a lot less to take her now and get it treated, rather than take her later when she gets really sick. An infected tail could mean the loss of her tail or even death if the infection gets into the blood stream. This isn't serious yet, but could get serious easily. Take her to the vet, get her some antibiotics. Tell them that you are tight on money and do not let them guilt you into any extras. The extras are good to do for your pet, but your family comes first. Good luck!

Take your cat to the vet. If caught you can be charged for not providing proper veterinary care. Having said that use luke warm water and a pinch of salt to flush the wounds. If it doesn't heal it will form an absess and the vet bill will be even higher. Off to the vets!!!

I used to work in a vet hospital... if it is infected then she needs antibiotics. Like the other person said, if it abcesses, you will have to fork up A LOT MORE MONEY to get it fixed. Trust me, nip this in the bud and take her to the vet ASAP. I understand about money being tight, but if you have a pet, you should have the means to pay for some minor medical treatment. Otherwise, you should consider not owning one at all. I don't mean to be harsh, but that is the reality.
