Well considering easter was origonally a pagan festival in second century Europe, the predominate spring festival was a raucous Saxon fertility celebration in honor of the Saxon Goddess Eastre (Ostara), whose sacred animal was a hare.

and generally there were festivals to mark spring treat it like that.

Well, I guess it depends on the atheist, eh?

Easter isn't purely a religious holiday. Some people probably just enjoy the non-Christian aspects of Easter, such as easter egg hunts and easter baskets.

That's the benefit of not having a rigid belief system. You can enjoy life a little more freely.

Sort of like Christmas. I would imagine many atheists enjoy celebrating Christmas, as a time of giving, as a time of meeting family, eating, drinking, and being merry.

These holidays have never been exclusively Christian, you know? Christianity merged with the already existant holidays. Most cultures around the world observe some sort of celebration around the end of December, such as winter solstice, and around this time, being Spring, a time of rebirth.

Think about it for once.

A true Atheist doesn't believe in Easter. An athesist has no belief in religion at all and what they decide to do at any religious event is totally up to the person. They do not go to mass, or services etc. but if they want to color eggs or go out to dinner etc thats up to them. Atheist's do not believe in religious symbols, or in praying or showing some sort of worship toward a God, or some sort of Idle. Most people are not Atheists they believe in some sort of religion and celebrate each holiday in a special way or carry on a tradition. But what is so wrong with not doing anyting?

Play point out the dumb christian as we glide effortlessly into an empty parking lot on Sunday morning

Why do you ask anyway - Does god let you ask about other religions Doesn't it say in Exodus that you should not even inquire as to thier gods or thier ways ????? Yes I am so sorry but it does

Oh no and you were so close too Now you will just have to go to hell with the rest of us pagan witchs and devil worshiping child eaters -----

Oh well it was your own fault for asking

I'm an atheist, aren't i allowed to even eat chocolate now??
What does anyone do on Easter? Seriously, i bet there are plenty of chrsitians who did exactly the same thing as me today. Just because you went to church doesn't mean you have had a more productive or meaningful day. It just means you wasted a few hours of your day that you're never going to get back.
Oh and on good friday, i enjoyed my big bit of steak, oozing blood.

A lot of them have hard-boiled eggs and bunny shaped chocolates anyway. After all, these symbols are much older than Christianity. Originally, the eggs and the baby animals were pagan symbols of spring, and the rebirth that comes every spring.

The Christians who took over England and Europe during the Roman Empire days and soon after knew they had to adapt the symbols and holidays of the pagans (literally, country folk) in order to get them to submit to the Christian church.

Atheists may not be pagans, but they are able to use terms like "folklore" and "tradition" to get around the fact that these eggs and baby animals are religious symbols.

My daughter hunted for Easter eggs, ate them while on 'Messenger' with her friends, played her violin and is now playing video and music on her phone. A fun 'chill out' day.

Sadly I'm off to work soon. Bummer.

Have a great one!
