For those of us that have been raised as Christians, you might as well ask why were all still not Catholics. Obviously the original Catholic faith did not offer enough for people to experience unfettered spiritual growth. Modern Christian churches regard as the denomination's tend to get lost in dogma.
I don't think is just a middle class, but I do believe that New Age movements allow people to think of God in different ways, to experience God in a personal nature and in a way that is not encouraged by traditional Christian churches.
Is this good, well I can't say what would the other, but then again we're all still not Catholics.

Education. Uneducated, sheltered people do not know there are choices to understand their lives, beyond the dogmatic pap they are fed by the traditional faiths. Modern middle class people have access to learning which often opens their eyes to the fact that the religions they were raised with are unsatisfying, filled with hate, or oppressive. The traditional religions are more concerned with making money and power, and the more educated someone is the less they believe in threats of eternal damnation and look to find a path that is more loving and intellectual.

Poverty (lower class) mindset is dealing with the stress of living day to day. The worry and fear of enough food, money and proper shelter prevents so many from seeing beyond the day they are dealing with.
Modern middle class has money, possessions and homes. Thus middle class is freer to strive to be better at what they do and who they are. New Age movements are empowering to our thought processes and life habits and put many things into perspective as well as in reach. The newest thing is "The Secret". Book or movie, The Secret teaches what other "new agey" paths have conveyed- change your thinking changes your life, changing your life changes your community, changing your community changes the world.
High class is already empowered in thought and habits and so do not seek what they are already living. They strive for status and recognition.

People want more intellectual satisfaction. From some new age movements, they feel that they get better answers, not all of them, however. Each movement has to be considered individually. They can be quite different from one another. Issues, such as an afterlife, require faith in a doctrine. Some doctrines have been inspiring more faith. I think that's it, in a nutshell.

Human beings of all classes and in all periods of history have wanted to be their own god (which is essentially what the "New Age" movements teach).
