Congratulations, you are on the path to finding yourself,Buddhism is not a religion,it is an education, the relationship between the Buddha and his follower is teacher and pupil,we learn what he teach and practise but with mindfulness and not blindly as he had instructed....to accept teachings after careful thouhgts, the Prince after 'gaining'enlightenment told us every living being has the Buddha nature,so in Buddha, there is nothing more in wisdom and in the lay-person there is nothing less,we are in this stage because of our delusions and he is only showing us the ways to rid ourself of greed, hatred and delusion, one main difference about Buddhism is ,first you have to believe that you have the Buddha nature and you can be a Buddha if you strive hard and right, good luck and May Buddha be with you.

do not in common terms strengthen right into a Buddhist in common terms for namesake yet in addition attempt to comprehend what the Buddha had to assert and prepare for the completed freedom. you do not could desire to be a Buddhist to have self belief in the regulation of kamma (karma) - or the regulation of causality. in case you spot the actuality as that's, you're already honest. all persons could be honest and it truly is the organic top and situation. no person can declare the possession of actuality (the actuality). Buddhism would not own it. The Buddha did not declare He owned it. He in common terms defined that He found the "previous direction" walked via many so large beings earlier. in spite of if Buddhism exists or not, the actuality exists as that's. In Buddhism, the terminology is kamma. In English, it truly is causality. In technological awareness, it truly is reason and result. in spite of you call it, you may desire to recognize it previous the words or words.

In Buddhism, Buddhist's advices sometimes get complicated. If you fall in this situation, go to some bookstore to search for books which is about some basic principle of Buddhism. For common people, who want to live a better life and even go to heaven in the afterlife, we only need to live in harmony with everything; be merciful toward everything (even bugs...); not committing sin and participate in many charity works...!

i respect people who decide the religion they practice and i wish you well in your decision.
my understanding of Buddhism is that there isnt a massive lifestyle change, you can take part in other religious activities so long as it is within the teachings of budda
its more of a philosophy then religion though, and in my opinion is better structured for living life in a harmonious way. searching for answers from within.
talk to an actual Buddhist for guidance and advice

Can you be a Buddhist in America? Of course you can !
You are free to do whatever you want.
Now learn what Buddhism is and decide if that is truly the type of freedom you want.

Those people who speaks of how are you going to face the God after your death are halucinating . They are always thinking under the mind force of a supernatural being who controls your destiny . Don't mind them .

I personally dont commit to any one religion, as I believe we can find truths in all religions that make sense to us, to me religious texts are simply stories recorded by people sharing their beliefs & experiances..
you will know what to do in the deepest part of your being, follow your inner guidance....

Vinslave and Mirage are really good people to talk to about Buddhism on here.
They always have great answers and are willing to help those who have questions about Buddhism. You can find them in my contacts list if you'd like to speak with one of them. I don't know if either is on here at this time yet.
Many blessings on whatever path you choose.
