What country are comming to Australia from?

Australia has agreements with the UK, Germany, and Canada. Where you can get a working/holiday VISA for a period of a year. This 'cuts the red tape' of getting an actual resident permit.

However, Australia is in dramatic shortage of skilled 'tradies'.... but i'm not sure how much weight they give to a criminal record.
See the Australian Depart of Immigration... or Ring the consolute near you!!

You could also check out the Lonely Planet forum for some advice - there are lots of people who have asked immigration questions like yours so you should find some info there. Good luck!
