I have tried various chat rooms in Australia, as well as by age groups. I find they are full of people who are not the following; Australian, in the age group of the posted chat room, and a lot from Asia looking for boyfriends in Australia. Does anyone in Australia have knowledge of any websites where one can make connections with people over 45 living and working in Australia. Regarding something I read about Australia seeking English requirements in the immigration, I have to agree. I live in Canada and the 2 language policy has created nothing but headaches for us, Bravo to Australia for taking a stand to preserve their cultural identity.

I am a duel, and found the process of making freinds and contacts in Australia very difficult until I actually spent a lot of time there. Now, I am back and forth on a frequent basis. I do not think you will be too successful findingn contacts who will be open and honost abut their actual circumstances on the web. Too much hastle today with identity theft, marketers, etc. The people out there who are trying to find work in Australia from overseas must be especially frustrated when they turn to the internet. This is one area where you really need to go to Australia, spend time meeting people, and then build the relationships you desire. Having said all this, there are some organizations (for example, Lions International, some lodges, Rotary, college alumni associations, etc.) that you can join anywhere in the world, that can open doors to new friends with similar interests worldwide. Good Luck! I hope you make lots of friends in Australia

I am an Australian. I think the structure of Australian society would be very similar to Canada, so I would look in the same types of places on the internet that you would look in Canada. I would use the Yahoo Australia site, and restrict your search to Australian sites only. One site that comes to mind is www.whitehat.com.au Send them an e mail and ask them if they can publish your request in their newsletter, or point you in the right direction. What about the letters pages of Australian newspapers eg the Herald Sun of Melbourne, or the Sydney Morning Herald - they are online. What about personal home pages of Australians, if you see someone you like you could send an e mail and try to strike up a conversation. I doubt you will find chat rooms of over 45s.

I don't know if you have tried yahoo chat rooms but a hint is to download from yahoo.com.au that way you get a list of rooms designed for Aussies that you dont see when you download from yahoo.com. Canadians are generally very popular in Australia as we have similar outlooks on life. Once you get past culture shock and home sickness I am sure you would never regret the move.

I do know a very good site but its very much centered around British people wanting to move, or who have moved to Australia

however you would be going through a similar visa process and have the same settling in issues so you still might find it useful?..

www.pomsinoz.com , and go on the forum
