...especially since the belief in the after life stems from Ancient Egypt? Is this not a biblical doctrine then? Is it that a man 'has' a living soul, or a man 'is' a living soul? What does your bible say?

The Bible clearly says that after death nothing happens.

"And Jehovah God proceeded to form the man out of dust from the ground and to blow into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man came to be a living soul." -- Genesis 2:7

Man + dust = living soul. So, the man doesn't have a soul, he is a soul. The verse also shows that Adam became a living soul which means that souls can be dead too; souls aren't immortal.

"The soul that is sinning—it itself will die." -- Ezekiel 18:4

"In the sweat of your face you will eat bread until you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken. For dust you are and to dust you will return.” -- Genesis 3:19

What happens after we die? We return to dust and decompose. That's all.

"All that your hand finds to do, do with your very power, for there is no work nor devising nor knowledge nor wisdom in Sheol, the place to which you are going." -- Ecclesiastes 9:10

This so called Christian belief concerning afterlife has pagan origins.

In ancient Babylonian and Assyrian beliefs the “nether world . . . is pictured as a place full of horrors, and is presided over by gods and demons of great strength and fierceness.” Early evidence of the fiery aspect of Christendom’s hell is found in the religion of ancient Egypt. Buddhism, which dates back to the 6th century B.C.E., in time came to feature both hot and cold hells. Depictions of hell portrayed in Catholic churches in Italy have been traced to Etruscan roots.

The Bible says that everyone will be brought back to life to be judged at the Endtimes. Those who are righteous will go to heaven for eternal life, those who are not will perish or go to hell. There is some dispute among christians on this point. Most say they will go to hell (a fiery place with where the damned will suffer with much crying and gnashing of teeth), some say hell is just the abscence of god, and a very few say that the wicked will just be no more.

The reason why religions threaten people with pain and suffering after death is easy to see. They want to scare people into belief and obedience.

Its also one of the primary reasons I reject religion.

The definition we have been given of hell and heaven is just kinda 'example' so it doesnt really mean that souls will burn in there,1st of all souls do exist. why?its related to if you believe in one wise god who created all the world with aim and not just for fun. then if you believe in such god you will see that its not logical to accept after human dies, his vanishes and is totally finished, coz it will show that what god created has been wasted,so there should be an after life world in which human soul will live eternal life based on his actions in material world.as we know material is mortal so living eternally cannot be with material body and therefore the necessity of humen having a soul is proved.and exactly coz souls are not material, they cannot be burnt physically.
In spiritual realm becoz its different from material realm and things and not mortal, so our memories will always be with us and we will remember every single thing we have done (not like in this world that we forget things easily)and also becoz we wont be limited in time we can feel and understand things fully and we will know the consequences of our all actions therefore we will suffer from our bad actions becoz we both remember bad things we have done, and their bad consequences so we'll be surrounded by the results of our own actions and it will be painful for our same, same as burning is for our body. well, if you think alittle you will see its not far from reality coz even in this world there are many people that the guilt they carry coz of doing bad things, is torturing them and its worse than burning, sometimes ppl even suicide coz of so much pain they bear.

you're analyzing the bible as a pre-script.... it rather is a verse taken out of context.. Hell isn't destroyed as of now yet interior the destiny it fairly is going to be. Revelations is a e book of previous recent and destiny. A ton of reading must be executed to verify which it fairly is. The bible says maximum of issues that as quickly as taken out of context can confuse a lot of human beings

(Genesis 2:7) And Jehovah God proceeded to form the man out of dust from the ground and to blow into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man came to be a living soul.

CAME TO BE A LIVING SOUL.
soul = Hebrew word, NEPHESH = that which breathes.

From what i have learnt...we do have souls. As for burning in hell, well ur soul doesnt just go to hell. Ur serve for all ur deeds while you still live. We are in a karmic cycle, so what goes around comes around.
