If you have an Australian passport, and you are not disqualified, then you may enter the US under the Visa Waiver Program for up to 90 days without a visa (work is not authorized).

If you do require a visa, then you will need to show the financial ability to pay for the duration of your visit, and overcome the presumption of being an intending immigrant.
