Rene b doesn't know what they're talking about. Lice will go on any head whether clean, dirty, old or young. It's people with this kind of attitude who usually spread the problem because they think that they're to perfect to get them. You need to wet comb them out of the head with conditioner every day or two until you have no more. Their life cycle is a couple of weeks so after that you should be clear. Remember to keep checking through the whole two weeks though in case they have laid eggs. I've read that coconut helps to get rid of them and tea tree. I always check my children once a week and if they get them I check them every day till they're all gone. Good luck!

Having nits is not a sign of bad personal hygiene so don't worry about the answer above. Otherwise it would mean half the nations children have poor hygiene levels.
There are various treatment for nits but one of the most recommended is to shampoo your hair and then condition it - leaving the conditioner on. Then using a fine nit comb, comb through your conditioned hair. Be careful to go slowly and rinse the hair after every single comb stroke.
This should soon clear the nits...

You should NOT allow nits to last! Get a very very fine tooth comb.. and even if it takes forever.. keep combing until all nit's are gone...
Lice are highly infectious.. they will get into bedding.. clothing.. carpeting.. ANY place that they can lay in wait for a warm human head to attach to.... where they will just reinfest again and again.
Get a GOOD lice shampoo and comb every single nit out... wash all bedding and clothing that you have warn.... that may have come into contact with your hair... ALL stuffed animals or non washables.. should go in a very HIGH heat dryer for at least 30 minutes... to kill all adult lice and nit's
Good luck

Having nits is a sign of poor personal hygiene. You see this in slum areas where people are so poor to even get a decent daily bath.
