If your faith decrees that you are better than other folk, such as the homosexual community, different ethnicities, different nationalities, different faiths, genders, et cetera... how can you keep that faith? Any faith that seeks to separate mankind from itself is WRONG! If there is a god that expects me to follow a law that goes against my fellow man/woman/child I expect that god to commit seppuku on the spot. I shall not be ruled by cowards and those who would divide my family.
For the good of mankind, HA! Division is weakness, discrimination is strength.

who decrees what is sin? to sin, you must have a law... the only law is Do as Thou Wilt, Love is the Law... Love under Will.

Each atheist has a personal moral code. However, it is generally derived from secular considerations, and not from any "revealed" religious text.
To a degree, most people in North America are Atheists. Christians will generally deny the existence of the Mayan, Hindu, Ancient Roman, Ancient Greek, Ancient Egyptian, Ancient Sumerian, Sikh, and many hundreds of other Gods and Goddesses, even as they assert their belief in the Christian Trinity. Thus, the difference between a typical Christian and a typical Atheist is numerically small: The strong Atheist believes that none of the many thousands of Gods and Goddesses exist; the Christian believes that one God exists in a certain structure -- a Trinity -- whereas all of the other thousands of deities are nonexistent, artificial creations by humans. Although the numerical difference is much less that 0.1%, the philosophical difference is immense.

Personally, my faith doesn't cause me to look down on ANYONE. I may be disgusted by certain acts; child abuse, spouse abuse, murder, etc. but each of us is on a journey through many lives, and eventually, we'll learn our lesson. It may be the hard way, but we'll get there.
It may happen that in some future life, I'll meet up with someone who hurt me badly. Perhaps part of that lesson will be to learn to forgive and love such a person. How can I forgive, love and simultaneously look down upon someone?
Today I may be angry, but tomorrow I must learn to love. That's just the way of it. Today, I may be compelled to fight in self-defense; tomorrow, I must deal with the consequences. I hope that I never have to hurt another, but it's a blessing to know that we all have the ability to forgive if we choose to use it.

Jesus came to serve not to be served and give His life for us,any serious Christian cannot afford to look down on anyone else because of His example, those who choose to do so are not being faithful to Christ and His life of love and commpassion, however that does not mean that Christians cannot fight against the errors and sins of society,we can judge the sin but never the sinner.

If you don't understand the beliefs properly then you will misinterpret what is being said. Most people I know don't look down on anyone. They believe they are just as fallible as anyone else. Just because someone believes that a certain lifestyle is dangerous or wrong doesn't necessarily mean they look down on them. They just disagree and they may have very good reasons for disagreeing with it. You'll never know if you just jump down their throat before you actually learn what it is they really do believe.

My faith does not support any of that, which is one of the reasons why I am spiritually happy as Wiccan, self guidance, knowledge and acceptance are only a few qualities I will list that I act on in every day life.
For Male1905, if god also told you to volunteer to spend eternity in that christian hell, would you also go just because (s)he said so?

You can justify your faith however you want.
The problem is that no one has the power to make you who you are except you, and you pay the price for whatever standard you set whether you want to or not.
Actually, it's entirely possible for you to be a better person than everyone else, but you actually have to BE a better person, not just say you are.

it's only natural for some to be above and some below but how honestly and intelligently you apply your sense of kindness makes the difference not whether you look the other way with eyes closed to reality. help out those you call below and maybe you'll get a hand up when you need it too!

That is why Jesus tried to teach us to love others and forgive. He said "He who is last shall be first, and whoever is first shall be last". Jesus always taught that we should put others before ourselves.
The problem is that very few listen, and few that listen actually practice. But we are all human, and we should forgive others for looking down on us. They may be hurting us, but we must remember how we have hurt others in our lives. Not one of us is without sin.
