Well, entering key works CAN help, but the more links you have going to it, the more exposure it can have. Almost all search engines have crawlers(believe thats the google name for it) or an equivanlent, which automatically go on sites, and go thru all links, making most of the info searchable. The only way to really improve where you rank on a search engine tho is to get more hits, and have search terms that are used often. For the most part, it will eventually be added into their searchable database, and not alot you can do about it. Just do not fall into the propaganda that offers to submit your site automatically to xxx number of search engines... since most search engines "crawl" sites anyways. Ranking your pages doesnt always take a long time, it depends on the popularity of the information, and the amount of sites that have similar information. For instance, I had a website related to a newly released video game. It was quite popular, but there wasnt a vast number of websites related to this particular part of the market. Most of my main search keywords put me in the top 10 results when searched on major search engines, and some of the lesser keywords still put me in top 20... and all within about 2 months. I do NOT recommend PURCHASING anything when it comes to search engines. If you are in the type of market where you really need to, so many others will also be doing so, that it wont raise the ranking at all. Hope this helps.

Google's database is proprietary, as is their search algorithm. In fact, they have many patents on it.

Yahoo's database is unknown, though their job descriptions seems to indicate a mix of Oracle and Sybase, but heavily customized.

So unless you have budget of millions, you can't duplicate either's database, or even come close.

To just get "similar", they use relational databases. And Access is a relational database (for the desktop use).

im sure they are highly configured sybase, sql and access databases - depending on its purpose. they have more than one database.

the speed of your search depends on other factors other than their db. the search algorithm would have a lot to do with it.
