First and foremost, take your vitamins! A well balanced diet of foods rich in vitamin A, B, C and especially E are all essential for growing healthy hair. Foods that are rich in iron and zinc have been proven to encourage hair growth.

Get rid of the dead ends. If you have tons of split ends and you haven’t had your hair trimmed lately, your slowing down your hair’s growth potential.

Stimulate the scalp. Keep hair healthy with good conditioners.

Treat your hair with care. Don’t brush wet hair unless you want to damage it. Use a shampoo and conditioner that is specifically formulated for your hair type. Skip the heated styling tools, perms and dyes as often as you can, and avoid any unnecessary rough stuff that can cause your hair to break.

Healthy Food and vitamins will help strengthen your hair for better growth - not exactly make it grow but as long as you take care of your self you won't be slowling down the growth process.

A few things that you can do to ensure that your hair follicle remains healthy and your hair is undamaged, are:

1. Take an inexpensive daily multi vitamin such as 'One-A-Day' or even 'Flintstones.' Your hair likes zinc and biotin and both of the above mentioned vitmins contain ample amounts of these. Don't waste your hard earned money on 'super vitamins.' Your body only requires so many vitamins per day and simply discharges the excess. You can't put twenty gallons in a ten gallon tank. In some instances, over dosing on supplements can actually be fatal.

2. Do not over brush your hair. With every stroke you damage your hair more. Brush only as much as you need to style your hair, then stop.

3. Buy a good quality brush or comb without sharp plastic or metal ridges. This is one of the common factors leading to split ends, as is over brushing.

4. Don't be penny foolish. Buy good quality salon products. The chemicals used in many if not most over the counter shampoos and conditioners, contain very harsh ingredients such as 'ammonium laurel sulfate' which can actually dry your hair out, and cause breakage and split ends. Even worse, many contain a form of silicon, and that can be very bad for your hair.

5. Don't constrict your hair with tight bands, hats, braids and the like. These also lead to split ends and hair breakage.

Don't listen to anyone else... this is the answer. ( People don't know what they are talking about, and base their answers on here-say and myths. HAIR ON YOUR HEAD NEVER JUST STOPS GROWING AT A CERTAIN POINT- that is only body hair!

The only thing you can do to make your hair actually GROW faster is to take vitamins... preferablly prenatal. These vitamins will increase production of the hair cells. There is no other way to get your hair follicle to grow more hair except with taking vitamins.

Thats the only-only-only way you can INCREASE the rate of growth.

However, remember to always get your hair trimmed ( This is why people say there hair doesnt "Grow".. If you have split ends, and dont trim, your hair itself will be growing, but the spilt ends break off and your hair remains to look the same length. Thats why people think their hair stopped growwing, but in fact, it is just the dead ends breaking off.

Also, try not to wash your hair/striaghten/curl EVERYDAY, because that will lead to increased split ends. Reduce the amount of heat styling you do. Whenever possible, let your hair dry naturally. Technically, if you put your hair up everyday and never washed it, never blew dry it , it would probably grow one inch flat every month. Its the things we do that cause split ends, which cause breakup and hair "stand-stills of growth"

Most of the products on the market that claim to speed up hair growth, really are just preventing split ends. there is a widely known hair oil, mainly found in India, that people swear by, Basically it is just a really strong oil that used frequently, really hydrated the hair to the point where you rarely get split ends. (Thus perhaps being able to extend the times of needed to trim). But there is no PRODCUT besides viatims that can actually accelerate the RATE of growth.

Nothing will make it grow faster, but you can grow it healthier. Garnier Fructis Length and Strength shampoo, conditioner and leave in cream. This line of products will help treat & prevent split ends so your hair can be strong enough to grow. Getting a trim every two months is sufficient enough to eliminate split ends and promote healthier hair growth.

You can't do anything. Your hair (and most people's) will grow, as you say, about 6 inches a year. Period.

I heard washing your hair with cooler water helps it grow a lot. I'm not too sure if it works, though.
