I am assuming since he knew that the lake in question had hippos in it that he knew something about the danger involved with swimming in a lake that had hippos. Hippos seem rather sluggish and cumbersome when they are on the land, but I don't think that hold true when they are in the water.

Well I have heard that hippos are actually quite angry.

"Hippos have been known to be very defensive towards humans, and it is often claimed that Hippos are the deadliest animal in Africa; however, according to Smithsonian Magazine, while the animal is very dangerous, reliable statistics for this are not available."

So I guess don't risk it.

No, you should never swim where they are hippos because hippos kill human being. STAY AWAY!!! You are so lucky to have a boyfriend that cares so much about your safety.
Do him a favor, give him the best night (sex, of course) that he'll never forget for caring you so much.
When he does ask "why all this?"
Your response with a lovely smile, "Just because."

Your boyfriend is correct. steer clear of hippos, more people die from hippo attacks every year in africa than they do from lions. Hippos are very territorial, and aggressive animals, do not swim with them or approach them for any reason. I am completely serious.

Hi! Do not go swimming in the lake. Hippos can be extremely dangerous and they have been known to kill humans.

Regardless of being killed by Hippos you can be killed anywhere, do what you want to do. I know your boyfriend is being helpful but if you must and really feel like going in there do it. Do not always listen to people. They may be wrong. Even your bf.

HAHAHAHA...go for it. If a hippo attacks you, you probably won't survive but I'm sure theres bigger risks you could take. Just say "Baby, I live for danger!", and dive right into those hippo infested waters.
