Most anywhere. Thunderstorms are very common in the tropical north, but mostly produce heavy rain. Hail frequently results from frontal thunderstorms in the South Eastern states and the SW of Western Australia (south of a line Geraldton to Kalgoorlie).

In those last mentioned areas, hail up to around golf ball size or even larger is sometimes reported.

Hailstorms generally do not occur in the tropical north because the freezing level is too high and any hail melts on the way down. Although they can occur at any time of the year, thunderstorms are mainly a summer phenomenon in the east and south but a winter phenomenon in the southwest near Perth.

Hail itself is a rare event in any individual spot although it is relatively common in any area. This is because the area of hail from an individual storm is very small.

Fruit orchards and caravan (trailer) parks. Anywhere, really. The most violent I have seen was right on the Tropic of Capricorn. It stripped leaves from trees and damaged several cars and caravans - it hit a construction camp.
