Most anywhere. Thunderstorms are very common in the tropical north, but mostly produce heavy rain. Hail frequently results from frontal thunderstorms in the South Eastern states and the SW of Western Australia (south of a line Geraldton to Kalgoorlie).

In those last mentioned areas, hail up to around golf ball size or even larger is sometimes reported.

Although they can occur at any time of the year, thunderstorms are mainly a summer phenomenon in the east and south but a winter phenomenon in the southwest near Perth.
