I'm going to be starting ROTC (Reserve Officer Training Corps) in the fall, and I have to choose between Air Force and Army. Army has offered a better deal, but I was hoping to go Air Force and do Pararescue (I know how tough it is). What are the most similar career paths to Pararescue in the Army for officers?

I just want to get some outside opinions to help me do the research, outside of what the Army rep. might tell me.

By deals, I mean scholarships. The Army's scholarship offer will let me pay a few thousand a year less. Very tempting.

Army can offer you Airborne training, and there are specialized areas in that course. The Army depends on helicopter evacuation almost exclusively, and that is often done by the Air Force. I am currently serving in the Army (Captain), and did the ROTC thing years ago, just curious about the 'deals' being offered. The Air Force is probably more suited to what you really want to do. Good Luck in whatever you pursue!

edit: OK, cool on the scholarships, way back in my time they were pretty much the same, typical government boiler-plate stuff. Cool, you can go Army, and then do an inter-service transfer to the Air Force at some point in the future if that looks to be a better path. Initially, I think with your career field either branch is pretty equal. Unlike if you wanted to be a jet jock or something... Again, Good Luck!

Your first 2 promotions would be computerized. you will make 1Lt after 2 years, captain after 2 greater years. as quickly as you get to captain, it's going to probable take 5 years to pin on significant, possibly faster for the reason that your branch is military and there's a conflict happening. as quickly as you get to significant, you're on the element interior the pyramid the place issues start to get somewhat steeper. It gets greater durable and greater durable as you bypass up. you may anticipate a minimum of 25-30 years earlier you get your first megastar, if it does happen. i'm no longer so valuable which you don't get to compliment your profession distinctiveness. i think of with the scores you have, you may decide on something you prefer, as long as there's a choose for it. to respond to your question however, in case you prefer swifter promotions, bypass wrestle hands. Armor, Infantry, Aviation (possibly artillery, yet ideally armor) -it fairly is a greater good thank you to make well-known. you will could bypass to the conflict college at feet. leavenworth, in any different case, i do no longer think of you will make well-known. -most of the contributors from different protection stress branches won't say this, yet their complete function is to help the adult men on the floor. even though if it fairly is a strategic comman middle interior the midwest, or what have you ever.
