I dont know why i do this, is it wrong?
I have 3 alarm clocks, so if one doesn't go off, the other one will, and If that one doesn't go off, the other one will.

I check at least 12- 13 times a night to see if it is on.
My straightener is off, but I always check to see if it is off like 20 times during the day even though I KNOW it's off

I worry constantly about things that don't need to even cross my mind, like....... how many chips i've had in the past week.., and it practiclly CONSUMES my life...

does anyone know whats wrong with me?

That used to happen with me too and finally i got so fed up - (read lazy) of checking whether the door is locked 20 times... that i just stopped that habit. Still it used to be on the back of my mind " go , go and check the door u checked it only 5 times" .. and i was like the door can get lost so can the clocks, my world's not gonna end if the door isn't locked or the alarm isn't set... .I kept sayin that to myself and one fine day i got rid of the habit u don't need to go on medication for this . at least i wouldn't suggest it. Email me @ priz_kid@yahoo.com if u want to talk bout it but really,, there's nothing wrong with u..

Nowdays, everything has become a disease or a disorder and there's a medicine to cure everything (of course with serious side effects and then there are medicines to cure the side effects) Not that these meds guarantee results but they give u a false sense of security.

Even being healthy is a disorder nowdays. Low carb, low fat, no trans fat, no calories, zero calorie cola.... being happy is a disorder being sad is a disorder. Now if ur liver is damaged , that's something that needs medical attention. For Psychological stuff like this - u need to strengthen ur mind - medicines only screw u up. Trust me on this coz i've been there, done that

I also check these things like the alarm clock and the doors and that things are unplugged before going to bed, but not to the extent that it takes over my life. Because this is bothering you and as you say consuming your life, you need to see a professional.

Well, I certainly cannot diagnose you. I'm not a doctor and even if I was, we are online! Hello! It sounds like obsessive compulsive disorder or related anxiety disorder, but of course, I'm not a doctor or psychologist and I don't want to play one online. Hope you find the help you need.

It sounds like you're afraid to trust that everything will be ok. I've had touches of the same type of checking behavior and obsessive neatness - it was usually during times of prolonged stress.

You might be afraid you're about to lose control or maybe it seems like everything around you is out of control and it feels really unsafe. If you can't break yourself out of it, seek some professional help. And, if you don't like the counselor or medication, keep looking until you find whoever or whatever feels right.

This might be just a temporary thing, so try not to worry - be determined to feel better and find the help I know is out there.

u might have an obsessive-compulsive personality. it will be a type of disorder if your compulsiveness interferes with your studies/work performance. u said that "it practically CONSUMES my life" -- what made u say that, like how many hours per day r u doing these things to ease your anxiety, or is this all that u do all day? if so, then u might consider a psychiatrist's aid. u have a good prognosis coz u still have an insight of the repetitions u do.

Take a veeerrry long vacation. You think too much. Drink some wine, eat some cheese, watch a soap opera. Throw the alarm clocks in the trash and see what happens... i bet you'll be happier. It'll be super-traumatic, but worth it! You need to make some major changes!
