There are too many boys named Alex and Alec. If you want your child to be one of 5 in his class, then that's the name to go with.

I think it's a great name, in fact, I named my first son Alec. He loves his name. He's really Alexander, but he was glad he wasn't called Alex, because it was too common.
He has been called "smart Alec" on occasion, but he doesn't mind it, because he is very smart, and that's what they're referring to.
It's a great name!

It is not a good name because you can never accuse him of being a smart alec in any meaningful way.

But I go by Alex short for alexandria ...... so i might be bias
I like strong traditional male names (ie Lawrence, Stephen, WIlliam, Thomas ) and I think Alec is a strong name but the poor kid will be called alex all his life
Whatever you do dont get all hippy creative with your kids names or they will hate you ........ I promise
