I just watch in TV 2 hours of cops show
and I have a question;
in this era of high technology why the police force still use a lethal force?
when they can use the same technology
we used to capture wild wild animals
with tranquilizer darts or paralyzed darts
I believe this system is more safe for the officer
for the suspect and for the civilians

beside if hit an innocent is not a big deal
he will sleep for few hours and then he will be able
to walk aways

so why not use darts as a good alternative to the 9 mm?

well the police all the time have a good description of the suspect so it will be very easy to setup a correct dose before the physical contact with the suspect

I guess what I try to say the police officer with the darts try to take the suspect a life then if he will die cause allergy or something else well is the suspect fault cause his the one to push the officer to shoot him..

I believe the use of darts is possible
maybe not today but in the future

we have the technology like smart bomb
or smart identity gun for police officer
where the gun will only work in the hand of the police officer in order to avoid any suspect to still his gun and kill the officer
I see that in TV is cool stuff

well the taser can kill too if you hit a suspect with a pacemaker
the question here is not if the officer
fail to bring the suspect to the justice
alive but I believe any officers they will be glad to have a good alternative of the letalh force then if the suspect die well is his fault anyway..
we just need to find a good way to dose
the darts in the must safe way we can
is possible the second big question is who have the power to do so he will at least try? who knows

Cops don't want to use lethal force. They do it because they have to. There are several alternatives now called less than lethal weapons. Such things as the Taser, Pepper Spray, and Bean Bag Guns have given cops more options before they have to take someone's life, but unfortunately, sometime's that's the only option. Dart guns will NEVER replace a firearm - Unless you can find a tranquilizer that can incapacitate a suspct as quick as the Taser (Taser is instant). Cops can't shoot a suspect with a dart gun and wait 10 - 30 seconds for it to take effect. Most officer involved shootins are over in the first 10 seconds. I'm always interested in another option other that using my sidearm, but I don't think darts is the answer.

There are SO many things wrong with your assertions here.

Lethal force is the LAST line of force used to stop the offender. Use of lethal force is generally is utilized when all other means to prevent serious bodily injury or death to the officer and others are not effective.

Using non-lethal force against a lethally armed assailant will only put the victims and officers at risk. And to what end? To 'maybe' be nicer to the scumbag who would kill someone else in a blink?

And using your thinking, how would the officer deal with a suspect during a traffic stop? Call a time out while he loaded the proper dosage for the height and weight of the offender before firing? Or maybe, ask him what types of drugs he's strung out on that would stop the tranquilizer from being effective?

I have to giggle at your conclusion that we use the same technology to capture wild animals. Ask yourself this: If you find yourself facing a bear threatening to tear you apart, and you have a tranquilizer gun, or a 9 mm, which one would YOU use? LOL

I have been to many calls for nuissance bears and have seen them darted with tranquilizers. It takes several MINUTES for the drug to take effect. If sometime in the future they develop a drug that works instantly then I'm all for it.

If someone is coming at you with a knife or is holding a gun you need something that works fast and works every time.
Tazers have two prongs that must hit the subject and stick into their skin or clothing. They obviously are of no use if someone sitting in a car is pulls a gun as you walk up to the car. There are less than lethal options out there, and they are used, but for now the handgun is still necessary.

Lethal force is obviously something that officers should use only as a last resort. At what point such force becomes necessary will always be in dispute. Officers are instructed to use such force when their lives, or the lives of others are in danger.

I agree with you that non-lethal measures should be utilized to apprehend a suspect. However, involuntary drug injection is not a viable police intervention measure during life threatening situations. The outcome will always be unknown which is unacceptable when anyone's life is jeaopardized.

While I was in law school, I was evacuated from my apartment building while a distraught man released his ex-girlfriend from his custody and held a gun to his head on the front lawn of my apartment building. The police grew tired of dealing with the guy after several hours. They then threw a "flash-bang" grenade in his direction. When his gun moved away from his head as the grenade exploded, they shot him on the basis that the gun was pointed toward them. I didn't see this happen, but my neighbor told me this.

Point being, there is probably still a disconnect between reasonable police force and reality. On the other hand, the police have to deal with situations which may or may not be life threatening on an hourly basis. And their lives are consistently threatened.

Tazers are a good thing. Darts are not.

Yes. And if my family was harmed I would kill their family as well- after a few years had passed of course. No one attacks the people I love. The question is skewed... in a confrontation there is only one type of force, lethal force. Single punches can kill people so I take someone wanting to even punch me rather seriously. Thank you forefathers for the 2nd amendment and further for the right to a concealed carry. Police are gaping hatchet wounds who are a reactive force and that's why they die so much, deservedly so... when the state takes their safety seriously and realizes that a uniform and a weapon aren't a costume maybe they'll let them be killers and people to be feared. As a civilian person with a weapon your own rules for using lethal force are based on your own subjective feelings of being in danger... so if you want to live, learn to kill. God bless America!!!

It looks great on TV all of these new "less lethal weapons" but when you are backed into a corner by someone who is intent upon harming or killing you, I don't think you have time to wait for a magic potion in a dart to take effect.
The simple truth is people are taking a risk when they try to kill police officers, it's an occupational hazard for felons to get shot. I'm not going to say it's a great thing to kill someone and thank God I've only been involved in 1 incident where someone was killed, but it was their choice to attack a uniformed police officer with a knife. That choice had some severe consequences but it was on him for doing it.

I firmly beleive that the whole concept of law enforcement should be done away with and I'm a cop. People bi*ch and complain so much about things they have no clue about, so I say let'em protect their own property and lives. Really, the time has come. So when it comes to protecting your own life I'm sure you will go right out and buy a top notch tranquilizer gun. Good luck citizen.

When you use a dart, you have to use a specific amount to be effective. Too little, and it doesn't work, too much, and you kill them. You should know that. Didn't you go according to weight?. The Police don't have time to be mixing batches of sleeping juice. What if the person is allergic, or is on medication, and it interacts?.

Tranq darts are actually more dangerous than using normal bullets.

Give the wrong dose and you can kill someone, give a drug someone is allergic to and you can kill them .... and this relates to limb shots as well as possibly lethal body shots.

I got news for you, the drugs on those darts can kill also. You do not address AK-47 gunfire leveled against you with darts, this is asinine.
