I questioned this too so, don't feel bad. Jesus was a Jew. There's no denying that. Jesus was also crucified. You knew that already. The people who believe that Jesus was who He said He was are Christians. Christians are basically people who believed Jesus was God's son. If you accept that theory, you are a Christian. Before Jesus was crucified, there were no Christians. They came about after the death of Jesus because they believe that the Messiah already arrived.

In other words, it's a technicality. The death of Jesus brought about another religion or set of beliefs. He's still a Jew and there are some Jews that do believe in Jesus.

There's no reason you should get hate mail for this. It's a legit question. At least you're asking questions and trying to think. That's more than most people do.

I think your question is quite legitimate and should be answered with respect.

First, there are distinctions in your question that should be made. Jesus was a Jew by heritage. Christianity is a term referring to religions which believe in the divinity of Christ; however, all Christian denominations do not share identical tenets. I am a Christian, but I can only answer your question within a Seventh-day Adventist context.

Jesus was a man born of a virgin Jewish woman (he was Jewish). He was also the son of God because he was conceived by the Holy Spirit. As the Son of God (the divine), Jesus the Christ came to this world with a message from his father God. The message was that humans were burdened with sin but God would absolve the sin because Jesus volunteered to take it from us and take the punishment that came with it. Since God also gave humans free will, He lets us decide if we want to accept Jesus' offer or not.

Jesus, Mary's son (the human), had to deliver God's message- urgent information that needed to be disseminated. I would like to be explicit at this point: Jesus spread the message not the religion Christianity. The term Christianity came about after His death.

The dogma that non-Christians will go to hell is disturbing to me as a Christian and it is not a belief held by the Seventh-day Adventist Church. However, it would take about another seven paragraphs to explicate.

Good question actually.
Keep in mind that Y! has the filters set tight on anything mentioning Jews, Jesus, Christ, Hell in combination.
Jesus, Jew, Gay usually gets deleted as well. Even Jesus, Gay is a hot combination.
I don't believe Jesus ever existed and I think Hell is fantasy so I am unable to formulate an answer for your question.

Hope you like Easter Eggs.

I think you are misunderstanding who Jesus is.

Jesus is the Jewish Messiah.

God was providing salvation from sin and eternal death through the Jewish race, culminating in the sacrifice and resurrection of His embodiment: Jesus Christ. This salvation was offered to the Jewish people first (after all, they were the ones who had been waiting for it the longest). The offer was then extended to non-Jews, so that salvation could come to all of God's children: the human race.

Jesus has already been through hell, and came out. Now, he holds a way open for us to join Him in Heaven.

It IS possible to be Jewish and Christian at the same time. Such people are called Messianic Jews.

ok....I've read all the answers so far...and after being a Christian for over 30 years....now I'M confused!! Just kidding....but I don't think you've gotten your answer yet, so let me try.

Jesus WAS a Jew. No where in the Bible does it say the ONLY CHRISTIANS go to Heaven. The words "Christian" and "Christianity" are just that WORDS.

What the Bible says is this in Romans 10:9-13, "For if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believer in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by confessing with your mouth that you are saved. As the Scriptures tell us, 'Anyone who believes in him will not be disappointed'. Jew and Gentile are the same in this respect. They all have the same Lord, who generously gives his riches to all who ask for them. For 'Anyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.'"

So, like I said "Christianity" is simply a word that many of us that are "saved" call ourselves because we are believers in "Christ". However, if you were to become a believer in Christ you would still be Jewish.....because that is part of your heritage. You would simply be a Jewish guy who believed that Christ died and rose again for his sins.

What we "call ourselves" is not nearly as important as what is in our heart. According to the Bible, believing that Jesus is Lord is the ONLY requirement for salvation....it doesn't matter what our denomination is.

I have a feeling there are going to be alot of shocked people on judgement day!

Yes, Jesus was Jewish.
Christianity is based on the fact that Jesus was the Messiah and died and rose again. Christianity therefore came after Jesus. So Jesus would not be Christian anyway.
In Christianity it is said that all that do not believe that Jesus was the Messiah and ask for forgiveness of their sins will go to hell.
Hope that helps.

Of course Jesus was a Jew, Jews are His chosen people His own people rejected Him. I'm a Christian, a person that loves Jesus Christ "grafted " or adopted into His family.

Beleive in Christ your Messiah you rejected, ( as He said you would ) by the way "thanks for making God jealous and giving us Gentiles a chance to accept Christ, then call yourself what you wish ... how about a "Perfected " Jew ?

What an honor that would be !

Anyone can be a Christian; it's not an ethnic heritage like Judaism. Christian just means "Christ-like"; that one believes and follows the teachings of Jesus Christ. I don't see why you should receive hate mail for this; it is a legitimate question.

Jesus was not a Christian--he saw himself as a leader of the Jewish faith. He's a special case--he doesn't have to be a Christian to avoid hell.
