Puppy mills should be shut down. Any operations that treats dogs like assembly line machines is wrong. And don't be fooled by the Amish puppy "farms" they are mills too. Many online kennels are fake pics....esp. those that ship puppies all over.

Backyard breeders that have no clue about health testing or genetics or how to train a dog give breeders a bad name. They may just be breeding their pets, but they are also doing it for the money, without spending the money to do it right.

Ethical breeders, that study bloodlines and spay or neuter anything that has health problems and has health guarantees and follows the dogs they breed for life are the kind of people I call friends. I've only bred one litter in 20 yrs. I allowed my Champion male to sire ONE litter. I'm too picky about homes and it stresses me out to sell my dogs. My club members breed a litter when they are ready to keep a puppy and they have homes for the rest usually before they are born.

I'm still friends with the breeders I've bought dogs from over the years. They are good people that LOVE their breed.
None of our dogs will ever stay in a pound. I've had a friend BUY a dog back, because the owner would not honor the contract and was trying to sell the dog rather than return it after they almost ruined the dog.

We also all help our breed rescue with donations and raffles and fostering if needed. Good breeders exist and love dogs.
I've been showing my dog's son to try to finish his Championship. He's a spoiled boy :)

We've all fostered and helped place dogs that weren't "our" breed over the years as well.

'dog breeder' and 'puppy mills' - two very different things! OK some breeders can be as bad as people who run puppy mills, but there ARE responsible breeders out there who keep puppies and dogs in good conditions. I know, I've met them!

On the whole, I don't think I'd ever get a puppy from a breeder, not while there are so many needy ones in shelters. Still, if the incredible happens one day and there are no longer any unwanted animals (isn't going to happen) then we'll need breeders!

Puppy mills - despicable. Goes without saying really, that you should never use living creatures as money-making machines.

i think puppy mills are horrible places!! they arent even trying to improve the breed and are just there for the money and they are making mix breeds and mongrels. as for breeders, i like some breeders that are trying to improve the breed and breeding them with show dogs or champions that if they dont sell them all the wont dong some of them because i know some that do. hope this gave you a bit of an idea of what i thought of puppy mills and breeders

A BYB is someone who has little or no expertise of the breed, does no formal evaluation of the dam or sire's characteristics (like exhibiting or performance activities) and breeds the dogs to make funds. An acccidental muddle is a demonstration of both an twist of destiny via an in the different case thoughtful individual or a elementary journey for a non-questioning individual. in case you instruct dogs as a way to judge them, and intently journey a sire and a dam in accordance to those checks and do wellbeing checks then i does no longer call that a BYB. in the journey that in addition they require spay/neuter on puppy dogs, promote domestic dogs with a constrained registration, take back dogs at any aspect of their lives for any reason, socialize the domestic dogs properly, and intently journey households with domestic dogs then i could call that to blame breeding. You stated "is a BYB someone who own round 4/5 dogs ALL registerd ALL have large bloodlines, and in simple terms breeds her dogs per chance once a 365 days or a lot less? and cares for them, shall we the dogs stay interior her domicile, and doesnt EVER mistreat thier dogs?" ands i could call that individual a BYB besides. They have not been assessed for wellbeing, genetic complications, temperment, and so on then the guy breeding them is a BYB. Bloodlines are a staggering predictor of means---yet what concerns is the dogs itself. some staggering bloodlines produce dogs that should not be bred. My dogs's breeder is awesome. She shows and competes with the dogs in distinctive activities and averages a muddle each and every 2-3 years or so----even as she needs a doggy for her own breeding software. She checks references LOL and is noticeably strict about who receives a doggy from her. Her very last muddle replaced into as a rule spoken for before they were born and they were all spoken for via the time the domestic dogs were 4 weeks previous. She takes dogs back if the vendors won't be able to keep them and is ordinary to get in contact with if I really have any questions.

In my opinion "dog breeders" and "puppy mills" are completely different. Most true dog breeders are ethical, responsible people who care deeply for the breed they have chosen. They carefully choose which dogs to breed, and monitor the diet and health of their dogs closely.
Puppy Mills are people who in business to make money and use animals as the vehicle to do it. They treat them dogs like breeding stock more like chicken farms and cattle farms do. It is difficult to tell people it is OK to treat farm animals badly, but NOT OK to treat dogs that way because the puppy mill people do not see the difference between the dogs and chickens. It's all about money.

I think there are too many people that dont care about the dogs they are breeding. The animals are put in small cages and not taken care of properly - which then produces animals prone to diseases. There are already so many homeless animals and shelters full of unwanted animals - I really dont see the sense in mass producing puppies in a puppy mill - I think it is sad.

Puppy mill owners need to be shot, people who dont desex their dogs then have accidental litters need to visit a shelter and assist in euthanasing dogs for a week, just to see what happens to most of the pups. Responsible dog breeders need a medal to put up with all the flak they cop from uneducated people who dont really understand what goes into making healthy, problem free, vet checked, show quality dogs that preserve the breed.

I choose to have pure breed dogs as i know what health problems to expect and try to prevent. I know the suitability of that dog for my lifestyle. I know of that dogs suitability for my children and other pets.

Puppy mills need to be zoned in on and have themselves flagged for poor quality animals....

Actual licensed dog breeders that breed for the right reasons, and do everything recommended to produce healthy purebred puppies with little to no risks of illnesses......

They're fine with me.

dog breeders are necessary and are great if they behave in a responsible manner and treat the animals humanely----and thats the problem with the puppy mills is that the dogs are kept in deplorable conditions that cause horrible health issues.-thumbs down to puppy mills

I do not necessarily like dog breeding. I have known of too many dog breeders with a god complex, not to mention there are soo many dogs that need a home. Breeders just make people frown upon wonderful "accidents" that happen in the world.

I prefer adopting puppies from wild dogs, which I have done in the past. My current dog is purebred, but she was also rescued from a bad situation.

Dog breeding is selfish, and going for certain breeds is selfish. I wouldn't call these people dog lovers, they just want power in some way. Though some people can prove otherwise, and prove that they love dogs no matter what.
