Can you have a maid of honor and matron? Should it be only one or the other, becuase you can only have one best friend???

Well, by definition "best" means "the one better than all others." If you're going by etiquette book information, you can have only one maid or matron of honor, just as the groom has only one "best man." But lots of women value equally the friendship of several friends, and don't want to make any of them feel bad by singling out one. So they just have bridesmaids, without a maid or matron of honor. Unless, your families or friends are very concerned with proper etiquette, I don't see why you couldn't have a maid and a matron of honor, if you have two very close friends. They could share the maid/matron duties, and the costs that come with the job.

"'Matron' of Honor "is usually a term denoting the marital status of your best friend meaning she is married.
If she is a "Maid of Honor" then it just means she is your best friend and also unmarried.
There can be only one Maid or Matron of Honor and the rest are bridesmaids.

It's your wedding so you can do it however you like! I always thought there were these specific rules that you must follow when planning a wedding but while I was planning mine I discovered that everyone is pretty much willing to work around what you would like to have. I've seen so many weddings done so many different ways, so I say do what you want, it's your day!

You can have both. You can have a Man of Honor too.

You can have more than one best friend. I do. Have your wedding party how ever you would like- make your day special however you want! = )
