Yes, it is owners, and has very little do with genetics or bad breeding as some people say. My Pit Bull came from a very bad situation but their is absolutely nothing negative about her.

And for people blaming the dog when a small child gets bit: Use your brains and do not leave young children around ANY animal. Animals see children differently!

Yes, BUT... It is still true that more deaths from dog attacks have been attributed to pit bulls than any other breed. If a beagle has a bad owner, the neighbors are not in any serious danger. If a papillon or toy pincher has a bad owner, no one is going to get killed. So there still is a difference between a pitbull and some other dogs. It is like owning a gun or driving a car. I think people should have to take classes, get a license, and be registered to own certain dogs. You are right that it isn't the dog's fault.... hence the reason that people need to be held more accountable. Pitbulls are still a danger in the wrong hands. That is a fact.

I totally agree with you. People purposely train pit bulls to be mean and attack at will, because they can be more vicious than most dogs. This is wrong thing to do, and this is also the reason why pit bulls have been given a bad name. They have just as much potential as the next dog, people should actually take the dogs feelings into consideration. I mean, c'mon, it's not like it's a rock, it breathes and has a heartbeat. Dogs are very smart creatures, so smart they can sometimes resemble a human. So then why does it feel so right to some people to do this? What is it that possesses people to want to take on these sorts of actions?

Ah, the famous pittbull question.....
And i believe that 95% of a bad pitt it cause of a bad/ignorant owner. And an owner dosen't have to be bad (training to fight) to raise a bad pitt, some who haven't been around the breed before don't know how to raise them and they can turn bad due to their owners, who might love them to death but just don't know how to raise them. But just like in every breed there is that occasional dog that is just bad from bitrh, no matter how it was raised, i've seen quite a few in LOTS of breeds that are just overly agressive, even tho they are raised by people who know how to handle those breeds.
But a good tip.... don't keep them crated, penned up, or chained for long periods of time. that is when they get bored and get a little loco in the head, which would happen to any dog really, pitts just tend to do it quicker.
And the deal about the attacks of kids with pitts.... those pitts are either ones taught to fight (bad owners), slipped their chain/jumped their pen, or weren't brouht out and around all sorts of people while they were a puppy- they aren't used to seeing children.
But that's my rant of the night.....
I love pitts, and don't believe in the breed specific legislation- it will only affect the law abiding families that love their dogs very much, NOT the dog fighters, they're already doing one thing illegally, why not make it two??

yes, ur exactly right. people need to brightenup and let pitbulls socialize with people and other dogs cause they can become a big problem. im glad that u posted this question because its great to let everybody know that they should get pitbulls and dont think they will bite or anythink because you just have to socialize them. Hope this gave you a bit of an idea of my opinion.

Yes.

The beagle in the picture that I own, was rescued from a puppy mill bust. And she is very mean, exept to me, I feel special.

She won't trust anyone else exept me, and she hates everyone exept me. Thank god she has no health problems.

I unfortunately had to give a pit to the shelter because of my dog, sheeyum. (sam) (beagle) The pit bull had pinned her to the ground and walked on her. And Shey comes first so she had to go.

But pit bulls were bred to fight and sometimes, no matter how nice it is, they can turn on the owner. This can happen with many breeds as well. Pitbulls also have a huge locking jaw, that was meant to bite.

No dog should be described as "good" or "bad".Strictly speaking, these descriptions should not be applied to any animal because the terms imply a "voluntary intention" and have a connotation of ''choice, ethics, morality etc." . Animals do not go that far. They behave according to their instinct and training. However, we could describe them as " having an aggressive or timid nature, etc..". Unfortunately and ironically, we (the humans !) have attributed to pitbulls and many other animals the terms of "vicious and bad nature............".

First let me say I love Pitbulls...but it's not just bad owners...bad breeders as well. Any breed can have an ill tempered dog..before anyone has their hands on it. Some dogs are just nasty. Then you get the people who breed pitbulls for fighting..not temperment...that's were the problem starts. They breed 2 agressive dogs instead of putting them down..and they get generally a whole litter of mean pups. It's not right and its caused alot of problems for a beautiful dog.

Absolutely--the same thing with the Dobie's and other big dog's! A few year's ago--Dobie's had the same bad rap as the Pitt's do now--But FINALLY people learned that was not true of them!! Takes a long time to get the point across!!
