drench a small rag in water, fold it into quarters, microwave it for about two minutes, take it out carefully and check to make sure that it is not too hot by placing it over your arm, once it is at a comfortable steaming heat, put it over your eye loosely with your face down for 2-3 minutes, and then trying to work it out now that the follicular opening has been relaxed.

I had the same thing. I went to the Dr. and she just pulled it out with tweezers and put Visine in my eye.
Get a sharp pair of eyebrow tweezers from the drugstore. Usually the more precise tweezers will be a bit more expensive but it's worth it since they'll get the hair on the first pull.
Ask a friend or relative to flip up your eyelid and pull it out for you.
It has to come out for the pain to go away.

Ouch. You can try warm compresses. That may help the oil glands in the eyelid push it out naturally, but I'm afraid you'll probably need to see an ophthalmologist on this one.

apply a hot compress (not so hot it burns, though!) to open up the pore and soften the skin; that's also recommended for a blocked tear duct.
