I can not decide which to join. I want to be an officer and maybe work in cis or ncis. I have a degree in psychology, and just can't decide which will help me serve my country better.

Unless you like hot and dirty I would go with the Navy all the way. At least with the Navy you get port calls all over the world so you get to see the world. That's a much better deal than Iraq and Germany. You may be able to get into one but not the other too. Your major doesn't really help you with eith branch unless you have a PHD and are a doctor.

Your only choice is the Navy. The Army doesn't have NCIS...the N part gives away the reason why.

The Army does have CID....Criminal Investigation Division which is similar to the NCIS. CID has a CIS branch.

A note to consider. During my service as an Army officer I found that there are darn few officers assigned to the CID. In fact I requested that I be commissioned in the MP as my undergraduate degree was in Criminology with a Masters. I was commissioned in the Field Artillery.

I'm not sure what Kilroy is getting at...since JAG is not the same as NCIS or CID. And I find it surprising that the the USN & USAF have only 10% of all JAG officers? I don't buy it. Yes, the USA is the largest btanch with most locations around the world but that infers the USA members commit 95% of the crimes. Nice to see some numbers. But yes, making rank has always been quicker in the USA.
Good luck to you.

Army. Promotions will be faster, and the CID dept. is much larger and 90% of JAG officers are Army. Technology in the Army is as advanced as any other service unlike what one person said. Other benefits include NOT being stuck on a boat for months at a time.

Iraq 51:

The reason I brought up JAG is that those interested in criminology in the military should also be aware of other options. JAG is the legal arm of the military, but they have investigators as well. It is true that around 90% of JAG officers do come from the Army. The Judge Advocate General is a cross branch department that investigates and represents soldiers regardless of branch. It is not uncommon for an Army Jag officer to represent a sailor or the other way around. This does not imply that more crimes occur in the Army. I'm just a dumb 11B, but my brother is a JAG officer at Bragg and according to him the Army commissions more legal officers because simply the Army has far more ROTC departments than any other branch and that is where military lawyers come from.

They both equally serve your country. The army however gets longer deployment time. But the navy is the navy. Just join the marines. Okay.

If you want to wear gay uniforms, be stuck on a ship, or be called seaman - Go Navy

If you want to be stuck with a bunch of punks who just needed a job - Go Army

If you want to be a part of the finest fighting force in the world - Join the Marines.

You'll never regret not joining one of the others. You will regret not joining the Marines. 30 years from now, after the sign-on bonuses from the Army could have been spent, or the education from the Navy is outdated, you'll still be able to tell your grandkids that you ARE a Marine.

Depends on what kind of education assistance, I understand Army has a little more money, but Navy has more fields.

My advice is Navy.

You will serve your country equally well.

Go O.S.I. (Office of Special Investigations) for the Air Force.

I've met many people that stated "I should've went Air Force!"

Never have I met one that said they should have gone Army, Navy, or Marines.

Neither one of those choices is good. I would only consider the US Air Force, No questions about that. I spent 23 years in AF and saw how all the other branches live. No doubt you will want to be in blue and if not once you are in another branch you will see how AF lives and be upset you never went AF.

Navy or Marines. Army route is too slow and lacks similar levels of technologies of other branches.

I WAS A NAVY SEABEE FOR FIVE YEARS; SEABEES OFTEN WORK SIDE BY SIDE WITH MARINES. I GOT OUT THEN JOINED THE U.S.ARMY. WHEN IT COMES TO PROFESSIONALISM THE ARMY NEEDS SOME SERIOUS ADJUSTMENTS. THE MARINE CORP IS VERY PROFESSIONAL BUT INSULTINGLY SPECIFIED WHEN IT COMES TO JOB OUTLINES. THE NAVY IS CONSTANT SCHOOLING BECAUSE YOUR JOB IS ALWAYS CHANGING OR BEING ADDED TO.
