Eat right and exercise...not hard, yet everyone looks for easier alternatives. Walking will definitely help you lose the weight as long as you stick with it. I know people who have lost over 100lbs in a year by just walking briskly an hour a day, 5x a week. 25lbs by September will be a cakewalk if you set your mind to it.

I am no means an expert but I have helped MY self and some friends lose some weight! The most important thing truly is exercise, I know its not fun and it honestly who has time! But it will shed the pounds faster, and WEIGHTS are the best thing for you. There is a common misunderstanding that you need CARDIO, AKA walking/running to lose weight. Honestly weights are better, because it continues burning calories until your muscles are done growing Typically 48 hours. That doesn't necessarily mean go bench press 200 pounds. Start with 5 pound dumbell curls and take your dog "if you have one" for a twenty minute walk every night. That will get your metabolism up so that you can start doing more. Then you also need to cut calories of course! Don't listen to dieting fads, Like Atkins or south beach YOU WILL GAIN IT BACK. If you are currently eating 2500 calories a day cut back 200 a week until you get to 1700. Cutting out SODA and COFFEE and switching to Green tea and Diet Soda is worth 10 pounds by September! Also 1 gallon of water a day its a lot but worth every drop. Stay away from Sugar and fried foods.
Yes Foods:# Oats (oat bran, steel cut, whole grain- not instant)# Rice (long grain, brown)# Grapefruit# Apples# Black Beans# Green beans# Asparagus# Brussel Sprouts# Spinach# Broccoli# Chicken breast# Egg whites# 1% milk# Turkey Breast# Extra Lean Sirloin# Extra Lean Pork# Tuna# Seafood (Crab, lobster, shrimp; sans butter)# Tilapia# Salmon# Avocado# Almonds# Walnuts# Pumpkin seeds# Olive oil# Peanut Butter# Almond Butter

First, I suggest you set a goal.
Sounds like you want to lost 25-30 by September. Decide exactly what that weight would be and write it down. Since you may have 4-5 months to accomplish this goal, break it down into monthly goals. 5 lbs a month is possible depending on your current weight, diet, and activity level. Keeping realistic goals are very important to staying on track and motivated to the finish.
Second, you need to be able to measure your progress daily.
I'd suggest you get a digital scale. Ideally, look for one that will measure weight and body fat in increments of 0.1 or 0.2%. This will let you precisely track your progress. Then keep track of you daily weights and body fat. You can put this on a piece of paper, chart it on graph paper, an excel spreadsheet, etc. Whatever will help you see how things are going on a day to day basis. This will help you learn what behaviors help you lose weight and which ones don't. Also understand that the overall trend of your weight loss is more important than the day to day variations. A lot of things can cause your weight to spike up and drop down from day to day, the overall trend is your friend.
Third, burn more calories than you eat. You can either do this by eating less and/or exercising.
Eating less can seem difficult at the start but as you learn new habits it becomes easier. Being surrounded by junk food is not good to start with. Temptations are all around, just remember that they are short term pleasures, but will keep you from the longer term pleasure of having the body shape you want.
Walking is excellent for losing weight. It isn't the fastest method but it doesn't require any training or special equipment. Also, you are very unlikely to injure yourself walking. Any injury could setback your weight loss plans as it can effect your exercise regimen. An hour and a half of walking would be a great way to get to your overall goal weight.
Fourth, stick to it.
You've had a few years to build it up, so realize that even if it isn't all gone by September, you can drop a lot of pounds by then. You can continue to maintain healthy habits you'll learn. Losing 25 to 30 lbs will greatly improve your health, your outlook, and improve the way you see yourself. Change is possible and that you can do it.
I'd suggest you don't look for diet pills, fad diets or other instant fix solutions for weight loss. The effects are almost always temporary and usually end up adding pounds. The 4 steps I've outlined above are pretty simple to understand, but they aren't necessarily easy to do. Things that are worthwhile usually require discipline and willpower.
Good luck wannabelighter. You can do it.

find calorie/fitness calculator on the net, enter your stats, take 300-400 calories off that number and that's how much you need to lose weight.
5-8servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water a day
5-6 small meals instead of 3 big ones (breakfast is the most important - make sure to get complex carbs like whole wheat bread, oatmeal, fruit etc)
4-6 times a week cardio for 30-50min, light weight training, many reps
no junk food, no sodas, no alcohol, no white flour (cakes, cookies, white bread, pasta etc.), nothing high in sugar (ice cream)

Nourish your body thin, instead of starving your body fat. Good carbs like celery and carrots will never make you fat. Bad carbs like cake will, but you don't need to know the whole science of glycemic load. You need to re-learn how to eat so you can become thin and healthy. Salt has no calories but makes you fat and burning more calories does not help this fatness.
Find out about fastest way to lose weight, most effective exercise, good and bad fats, water retention and secret trick used by models to flatten their tummy before an event. Reading a book will take you hours but the information on a post, taking minutes to read, is not enough. The webpage below has just enough to know what you need to know. Links page has gov. BMI calculator to find out just how much overweight you are (teens plug in your age to compare to others your age).
You can force your body to lose weight with not enough calories, but if you continue it, you will starve to death. With an abundance of healthy foods, you lose weight just as fast, but only until you reach your ideal weight. You can continue eating this way the rest of your life and always be at your ideal weight.

If you have to ask this question, then chances are, you're not going to go exercise anytime soon. Your best bet would be to buy Dance Dance Revolution and just go crazy on that thing. It's fun, addictive, and it's a great form of cardio workout. This one time, I lost 1000 cal just dancing on that crap for 3 hours. Not bad for $150.
