Is there any lutheran around that can help me?

I saw the movie about Luther , and there is a scene there that was not clear for me. Before the Luther´s big trial with the prince, he was prayig in his room as his spiritual father was watching him. Luther was “fighting” with something. What was it? A bad spirit? His own doubts? His despair and fears? Thanx a lot for your help.

It may be all of the above. Luther was convinced that he was fighting with the very devil, who was much more popular then.

It was his own doubts, his despair, & fears...
He was very troubled with these feelings.
