Why do Christians hate the Catholic religion? My friend is Christian and she tells me that the Catholic religion is wrong, and I honestly don't understand why. I don't think any religion is wrong, even if they do believe different things.

A lot of the ill feelings are steeped in tradition...not scripture. Protestants and Catholics both should follow the teachings of Jesus, the only path to eternal life, and stop bickering over semantics.

Catholics are Christians. If you want to make a more proper distinction, it is Catholics and Protestants.

The Catholic Church as been around since Christ founded her 2,000 years ago. She has preserved, taught, and protected His teachings from the beginning.

Most Christians - catholic and protestant - have the same basic beliefs: that Jesus is our Lord and Savior, in His life, death and resurrection, repentance and forgiveness of sins, and the hope of eternal life. After this, it's difficult to explain.

Protestantism is a break from the Catholic Church around the year 1500, and includes all non-Catholic Christian churches.

When one tries to understand what Protestants teach, they soon discover that there are as many different beliefs as there are protestants. The reason is that Protestantism fractures every time there is a difference of opinion about belief. This is why we have over 54,000 different protestant denominations. When faced with this daunting number, someone trying to find the true teachings of Christ would feel this is impossible. Ironically, while each denomination is different from the other, they each claim to have Christ's true teachings and each condemn the other. It's crazy.

For the fullness of Christ's teachings and to be part of the Church He originally set down, we must study and live our Catholic Christian faith.

God bless and take care.

For the most part, today at least, most of the animosity comes from basic human nature when dealing with fundamental disagreement over eternal truths. Passions are sure to ignite in the more weighty matters of life, and one's faith is (or at least should be) at the top of the heap. Many Protestants think Roman Catholics teach a works-gospel that cannot save, while Roman Catholics think Protestants teach easy-believism that requires nothing more than an emotional outburst brought on by manipulative preaching. Protestants blame Catholics for worshipping Mary and Catholics think Protestants are apparently too dull to understand the distinctions Rome has made in this regard. These caricatures are often difficult to overcome.

Christians who say that they hate Catholics are usually ignorant of both Christianity and Church history. They do not really know what a Christian is although they claim to be one. Roman Catholics are Christians, and most denominations originally come from the Roman Catholic Church (but not all).

While it would be nice to say all religions are right, this is a logical impossibility. This is because they say opposite things. Christianity says that Jesus is God. Islam says that Jesus is not God, but a Prophet. Judaism says that Jesus is neither God nor Prophet, but either a good Rabbi, miracle-worker, or magician - It's not too sure of what Jesus is. All 3 cannot be right! Either Jesus is God or he isn't. Christianity, Islam and Judaism cannot all be logically right.

The 'Nation of Islam' religion believes that White people are the devil. Either this is wrong or right, and one must make a choice. Personally, I'm half White, so I think that this religion is definitely wrong, since I am certainly not half-devil.

Christianity is the world's largest religion, with over 33% of the world claiming to be one. 51% of all Christians are Roman Catholics.

Originally Christianity was a form of Judaism. It then developed into three strands over the next couple of centuries...Semitic (Jewish, and pre-Islamic Syrian, Persian, and Arab believers), Greek and Latin. They were all still One church called the Orthodox-Catholic church. Orthodox means 'right belief/worship' and Catholic means 'universal'.

Over the years, the European Christians (Greek and Latin) became more anti-semitic, and eventually when Christianity became the official faith of the Roman Empire, they started killing the Semitic Christians for not agreeing with them. These Semitic Christians still exist today in parts of Iraq, Iran, the Mediterranean, India and Asia, and are called the "Oriental Orthodox" and the "Church of the East".

Later the Greek-Latin Christians also split, and became known as the 'Greek or Eastern Orthodox' and the 'Roman Catholics'. Sadly, the Roman Catholics started the Crusades which killed many Jews, Muslims, Eastern Orthodox and Oriental Orthodox Christians.

In the 1600s, some Roman Catholic priests (Martin Luther and John Calvin) protested against what they believed to be corruption in the Latin church, and became known as the Protestants. Since they wanted to Reform the Roman Catholic Church, they were called Reformers. Eventually, the Roman Catholics rejected these Reformed Catholics, who became the Anglicans/Episcopalians, the Lutherans, and the Presbyterians.

All the Christians who do not agree with infant baptism were called Anabaptists and separated to eventually become the Baptists, Brethren, Amish, and Mennonites.

Later, out of the Anglicans, came the Methodists, out of which came the Holiness churches, out of which came the Pentecostals.

Therefore, hopefully any Christian who knows Church history will see that Roman Catholics are Christians, and are the Mother Church of nearly all the rest except the Orthodox, Oriental Orthodox and the Church of the East. All of these Christians accept the Nicene Creed.

However, Mormons and Jehovah Witnesses can no longer be called Christians because they do not believe in what the rest of the above agree on - The Nicene Creed.

Hope this helps...

Update: To shjOlds

I apologise, and I would ask that you please do not misunderstand me. I am not Roman Catholic, and over the last few months I have preached in Baptist churches twice. Most of the students in our seminary are Baptist, with some Anglicans, Presbyterians, a Methodist, a Lutheran, and a number of Pentecostals. So I do not have a natural bias toward the Roman Catholic Church.

You also misunderstood what I said concerning the origin of the Baptists. The Anabaptists were a product of the Reformation. Menno Simons was originally a Roman Catholic priest in Switzerland. English Baptists were from the Church of England and went to the Netherlands where they got influenced by passing Mennonites. The first American Baptist church was planted by an ex-Anglican priest without any influence from the Mennonites.

The point is that Baptists come from different denominations - the Roman Catholic Church, the Church of England (which still has both Catholic and non-Catholic Christians), or the Calvinists, Lutherans or Zwinglians.

However, the Church of England existed hundreds of years before the Baptists. This is an undisputed fact. St. Augustine brought Roman Catholicism to the UK, and became the first Archbishop of Canterbury around 595AD.

Hopefully this clears up any lack of clarity in my explanation.

It comes back to hate the sin not the sinner. I am a christian, I don't hate the catholics, I don't agree with thier teachings. The Catholic Religion, put's Mary before Christ. People in the church have told nme several times that although Christ was important , Mary is most important and without her we don't have life!.
I happened to watch over the weekend a movie that was Catholic centred and it was based on the life of Christ, and things Christ said & did, were edited to being that Mary said & did those things. After Christs death Mary isn't heard of again in the bible, she didn't go to the tomb after Christ died, she wasn't in the room when Christ appeared to the disciples telling them to go out into the world & preach his message. Her role ended with John taking her to his Home and looked after her as his mother. But you will find that Mary instigated the religion being spred throughout the world. something the bible does not supprt.
There is also a false premise that Mary only had 1 child, and didn't sleep with Joseph. This is true whilst she was pregnant with Christ, but afterwards no and we have proof in the bible for this, when Mary & Christs brethern where waiting without it says in Matthew 12:46-50 also we learn more about this in Matthew 14:54-58 where they actually say that Mary, Christs brothers & sisters. He wasn't an only child.
Also the Catholic church has given out that you have to confess your sins to another Human person (the priest, father) someone who sisn. Why? You don't need to, it is why Christ died for us, so that didn't happen & Christ approached God on our behalf not another sinner.
The other thing is that most protestant religions used to be wary of is the fact that the anti-christ is the Roman Catholic church & if you don't belive me on that one read Revelation & Daniel, both these books will show you that.A lot of people refuse to know because theat means that theory's that have sprung up over time are a little incorrect on this matter, but again it is up to individuals.
It is not the people in the church that people dislike, I have many wonderful, caring Catholic brothers & sisters, whom we have a common interest & family in Christ . It is the actual system, Idolirtry, paganism in the rituals adopted (and History is proof enough of this) adn sadley alot of those rituals protestant churches have or now are staring to adopt. We also live in a time when The Cathloic Church is regarded as weak, frail & wouldn't hurt a fly, living sort of in the now. What people don't realise is they are turning their back on a savage beast thinking it is now tame.
These are but a few of the reasons why people feel the way they do, but rember it is the actual church not the people within in it.

Not all of them hate, just the misguided ones.

To hate at all is to be unchristian.

Your friend is misguided in that she believes it is right and proper to hate in the name of a God who 'is' Love.

Now to address a different issue; to believe all religions are right is a heresy. Some Christian denominations proclaim opposing ideals, so how can they both be right? How can they both be true?

When it comes to Christianity, The Catholic Church is the only one blessed with the Fullness of the Truth. All the other denominations possess a portion of that Truth. That's not to say they're wrong. It would be more accurate to say they aren't entirely right.

I am sure your friend believes in the basic tennants of Christianity, but her divisive nature comes from a misguided teaching of human kind, not God.

I guess you have to go back to where these other religions orignated from. Remember there was only 1 religion, Catholic until 1517 (or there abouts...forgotten the date), when Martin Luther started the ball rolling and Protestant (ie all other chrisitian religions ...protestant from protest!) religions began (eg Lutherans, Calvanists) to develop.
Anglican (or church of england...) was started by Henry the eight after a falling out in regard to his divorce.
So I'm guessing they feel because they "had the guts" to start their own religion, that is based on their beliefs and standards and ways of doing things, gives them the feeling that they have "seen the light".
I guess as a Catholic, I believe that this is the one true religion that was started by Jesus (with Peter, his apostle the fisrt pope). Of course all religions have evolved over time ie introduction of english/native language rather than latin, changes to policies etc.

Not enough room here to tell it all Ill give you just a few highlights. First of all the baptism is wrong. Baptism means submersion not sprinkling. In a baptism you are following Christ in His death and resurrection. When you go under you are like Christ dead in the tomb and when you are raised out of the water you are resurrected just as Christ was. Tomorrow is another reason. God says do not worship thy God the way the pagens worhip their gods. You cant mix good with evil and light with darkness. Easter and Christmas are pagen holidays. Dont believe me? Look it up on the internet. Praying to Mary? Last I read pray only to the Lord our God. No priest can tell me to do something so I can be forgiven. Only God can forgive. Dont even get me started on the Eucharist. I dont hate the Catholic religion I just pray that they will leave their man made traditions and pagen rituals behind and repent and worship God the way God tells us to in His word. Peace out..............

Edit mareecla um you need to do some research. Catholics have been persecuting Christians since the first century. Read and so some research you will find out the truth. Please dont poison non believers minds if your information is here say not researched. Thank you God Bless and Peace out once again.....
