I'm trying to work on my lower abs, and i've been told to do leg raises...But im not sure exactly how to do them.

Start on your back with your legs straight out. Then slowly raise your legs (2 seconds to raise) to a 50 degree angle to the floor while keeping them straight. then lower them slowly to 3 inches above the ground. Repeat until really sore!

no such thing as the lower abdominals. the rectus abdominis (RA) is a single muscle. muscles either contract as a whole or they do not contract at all. that being said you can not isolate part of a muscle i.e lower abs. leg lifts, flutter kicks, etc. do not target the "lower abs". the primary mover is one of the hip flexors that runs deep below the bottom most portion of the RA. the RA is only contracted isometrically. to effective stimulate a muscle it must be exercised through it's entire range of motion.

i'm not saying not to do them but don't expect to see the entire abdominal wall with out the loss of body fat. also do not judge the mechanics of an exercise by localized fatigue that is felt.

take a belt a put it on your foot and take both ends in your hands lay down and pull your leg up
