I would not use the term fairytale, however there are similarities. Myth is a better term - it holds more about the moral and ritual aspects. These should not be ignored becuase for some they are the important aspects and even if they lost the belief in a god the moral and ritual aspects would still make the religion worth it.
Even I love a good mass, and as for church organ music - WOW, its almost worth putting up with the rest for it alone.

I must admit, I have my head in the clouds most of the time. But this is not in the clouds God is real, He is there, He has revealed Himself through animals and nature. Romans 1:20.
Did you ever stop and think why the people from ages ago believed in God? Is it because that maybe they realized the truth and there were dinosaurs around so Satan could not fool their minds with a trick such as evolution?
One can by no means say that ancient man was not smart, when one does they have closed all doors of possiblity. We have egyptian writings of heart, and brain surgery and then the writings go on to say that they lived. Also in the Bible it also mentions that light makes the wind, we have recently found that to be true. Nazca lines show a spider where on leg is longer than the rest, we found a spider an eigth of an ince big and during mating season that leg grows longer and shrinks back in, it took us microscopes to see that. How did they see it?
It all makes sense, maybe we're the "primitive" man...

I, myself am a "realist" in a faith that 5000 years ago taught people to deal with reality as God's peoples. Not Jewish, but "Egyptian." Do you think 4,600 years ago people were living a fairytale when they built the Pyramids in Egypt which even the most intelligent of earth can't explain yet? REALISTS are not atheists, when it comes to facing a reality you can SEE.., many IGNOR...They are still "searching" for "proofs" to all the ancient stuff hebrews say "their" ancestors BUILT, when all people need to do is face REALITY in "who" God in heaven gave his sacred words TO, and it wasn't a hebrew called Moses. Moses only repeated some of the "old" egyptian laws of the past......

I don't think that being a member of either group necessarily makes you a realist or a card-carrying member of Lalaland. In fact, most of the folks in this forum seem to be very realistic and intelligent people, irregardless of what belief system they subscribe to.
In my case, my Christian faith is a source of peace and comfort to me. I live a productive life and am firmly grounded in reality insofar as I can tell. I function very well in society. . .well, except for the occasional burp, maybe. ;-)
So I don't think it's fair to generalize about entire groups of people based solely on their belief systems. It comes very close to being prejudiced.

no, there are realists and fantasists in both camps. I would say, though, that given what seems to be a common human experience of God around the world and throughout time, those who deny God seem to be less accepting of human reality, and hence less realistic, than those who believe in God.

It really depends on what you define as REAL and what you define as FAIRYTALE.
I can tell you that most christians believe Jesus as god, born of a virgin, died, and resurrected a few days later is real to them (their perspective). Most of them will agree that this is based on faith (the will to believe without evidence).
Of course, there is no evidence that is objectively verifiable to support any of these beliefs. That is why most atheists disbelieve. Most atheists want to see evidence before accepting that version of reality, and will relegate them into the realms of fairytales until the evidence is presented.
So you can determine for yourself, depending on your definition of reality and fairytales, who is whom.

Kind of, but it's the most sadistic and brutal fairytale that I've ever heard.

i don't consider myself a realist as much as i consider myself someone with logic. I don't have any judgement on religious people though. We all choose what each of us wants to believe.

I would go that extreme, but atheists do devote more of their thinking capacity towards real-world issues; not about appeasing their god.
