I'm not sure that some people might find your question a little graphic, but to answer you - and barring physical problems he may have encountered at that time, some guys use their senses for errogenos connection/ perception. In your case, your friend may have a more 'feminine' voice or a voice he has connected with in a more erotic fashion (for instance - she may sound like one of those 1-900 phone operators or like an adult star he likes). Not to sound mean, your voice may not have hit that chord for him. His pleasure with you may be more visual?

Since you said it was a "prank," it sounds like the first time you and he did this.
Even if it wasn't, he feels (and rightly so) guilty about doing it in your presence. It is not your voice, or her voice, but the presence of the three of you.
Also, it is not an east thing for a guy to do (phone sex), even with one girl on the line, let alone two. But, the reason why he can do it with her alone on the phone is because he feels guilty when you join in.
