Of course keeping distance is comfortable....there's no risk involved. If you don't let go of past issues for fear of getting hurt, you will deprive yourself of living in so many ways. You will also miss many opportunities in your life that you may not get back. I think the real question shouldn't be if you should let go of past issues so you don't get hurt, but rather, how much do you trust yourself that you can handle the future hurts that will come? That's really what it boils down to. Life is full of hurt...but it makes you a better person and more aware of what you want for your future.

I understand how you feel and, unfortunately, there is no simple answer for this. For myself, with therapy, the 'letting go' happened slowly over time, but it's an ongoing story. Sometimes new people and new situations may reawaken old issues that you thought were exhausted. It's just an ongoing process of trying to keep an open mind and convince yourself that you are strong enough to handle what comes your way. People are unpredictable. We never know what will happen...

If life isn't working for you; you need a spring cleaning and you have to let go of past issues.
I had a rotten first marriage. I dated one guy after the marriage and found him to be the same type of creep. I stopped dating, examined my life, changed my habits, and five years later found the man of my dreams.

You should let go when you know its going to effect something that's going to be good for you. I've always had trust issues, and when My ex betrayed me, they got worse. But now I'm in a really meaningful relationship and I had to put that aside because I know to make this work I need trust.

when you first ask the question, then you have awaken from your denial and it's time to move-on. so do a little prayer, meditation, dance, hobby, read of few books about inspiration and love.... as you may need to feed your soul with positive thoughts and feelings... in time all will be past and you will enjoy each moment and look forward to a new dawn...

#1 You think about it often.
#2 It's all that you ever think about.
#3 When it bothers you to the point to have to ask yourself questions like the one you're asking.
