The simple answer is yes. There are many reasons for this. They could be that over time, the cells in your body get older and don;t absorb certain nutrients as well. Also, when your DNA replicates, errors can occur and are not always picked up on. The older you are, the more errors you have in your DNA and this can cause certain proteins to not be made etc. On top of this, hormones play a crucial role in body metabolism and we all know that hormones change as we get older (menopause comes etc etc).

yes...the metabolism does change but how much is mostly up to the individual. mostly the change is due to a decrease in test production so the levels of circulating androgens are reduced. also the decrease in growth hormone output will further effect the metabolism

keeping the body fat low and the level of exercise high can all but negate the natural effects of age on the metabolic rate

yes the older you get the slower your metabolism gets, all you can do is take some vitamines or talk to your doctor about what you can take to speed it up. some people at a young age has a slow metabolism it just depends on the person ok, good luck to you...

Yes. Beginning around age 40, metabolism drops about 10% per year.

You can research the table at the Kimkins blog.

When people get older they tend to be less active therefore their metabolism slows down. If you stay active and continue to eat well and frequently you can maintain a high metabolism.

I kept my weight thru my 20's at 112-115 no problem. I exercised and ate junk food BUT I did the work at the gym.
I hit 30 and went to get my physical. I weight 124. WTF??!!!
My exercise regiment hasn't changed (5X a week) but the weight went up.
Solution: start weight lifting now. Muscle burns more calories even at rest.

Absolutely. As you age, you start to lose muscle mass which slows down your metabolism.

Yeah by age 30 everything starts slowing down, not drastically, but will slow down through out the years on.

It has to. When I was 18 and looked anorexic although I ate everything in sight, I couldn't gain a pound to save my life. Now that I'm older with children, I eat nothing and can't lose a pound to save my life.
