these low carb diets are not really a solution to lose weight..if you stay on the south beach diet or atkins too long you can go into ketoacidosis which is basically your kidney dumping proteins/fats and in large amounts is very dangerous...im a diabetic and if youre trying to lose weight your best bet is to try and follow a 1500 calorie a day diabetic diet which is very balanced and limited on carbs..it's probably one of the best diets which allows you to eat lots of veggies and high protein foods and gives your body the right amount of carbs needed for energy...those other diets may be good for short term weight loss but trust me your weight will come back..i have tried the atkins diet and gained all my weight back...maybe you should consult with a nutritionist and they could definately help you and get plenty of exercise and it will all melt off...good luck!

the south beach wont leave you as exhausted as the atkins but the weigt loss is slow, really slow and very very expensive. I have used both in the past and had to change, which was luck for me as the change really worked for me. if losing some pounds of any description and inches is what you want then I would suggest you use a diet that is all natural and is rich in protein and vitamins, which is what the FDA recommends. I used a protein based diet after a friend who had lost a lot of weight with this recommended it to me. All the way through you feel great and energized, you also get great coaching and support along the way. The people are very friendly and gave me lots of great advice. I needed to lose 40 pounds and I did so with no problems. The products really work and you feel great whilst losing weight. I lost all my weight in less than four months and they have helped me to keep it off. I would definitely recommend using them. My sister did this also and lost 76 pounds in five months (She works out, I don’t). There is no pressure and they will even send you a load of free samples so you can try before you buy. The samples were the thing that initially convinced me that this was the right diet for me. You also a get a free complete health consultation with the samples, I just paid the postage and handling, but for what I got it was well worth it. You just go to www.myhealthabc.com to register your details to get the free samples and the free advice etc and then they just call you up and ask you a few questions. It was so easy. Their main site is www.myhealthabcmall.com and you can see all the products and packages and order from their. Its nice to have contact with real people who care about you losing weight and improving your health. I am in better health now than I have ever been thanks to these products and I know that I will continue to keep the weight off with the help I have received. I hope this helps.

I have done the south beach and it differs from atkins in that they encourage portion size and eating lean proteins in the first phase, but they have two more phases that slowly incorpoate more complex carbs into your diet. What I do is take parts of the south beach idea like eating lean proteins and complex carbs but not confining myself to a "diet" and combining that into a daily allotment of calories and exercise has worked for me. You do need carbs though they fuel our bodies, just try to start choosing complex carbs, watch caloric intake and exercise. lucy l is right when she says the weight will come back after the fad diets. mine did until I started doing the above.

neither one of those diets would be healthy to use for the duration of the lifespan, for short term use (3-6 months) that would be no problem. the negative effects of short-term use of either of them are negligible on the long term health . that being the case select a diet that you feel you will have the most success following religiously.
