That depends upon your filing status, the source of the income, and whether or not you can be claimed as a dependent by another taxpayer.

If you can be claimed as a dependent, it's $5,150 in wages subject to withholding.

If you are Single and not a dependent, it's $8.450.

If you have $400 or more in self-employment income, you must file.

If you have $850 or more in unearned income, you must file.

Different amounts apply for different filing statuses, or if you are over 65, are blind, or both.

These are the filing requirements in general:

If your gross income was at least $16,900 for married filing jointly-

And at least $8,450 for filing single-

then you are required to file a tax return!

So, if you made under those amounts, you are legally not required to file a tax return, although it would be a good idea too anyway since you would probably get a refund. :)

$850.00 per year, minimum. Got it right off the instruction booklet. You can find those in any public library.
