Just because of the color of Imus's skin too?

OMG are people really this dumb. What the black rappers say is just to belittle another group of people, another gender. Sad that people will give them a free pass JUST because of the color of their skin......

gary c......Bless you. For once someone has really said something that noone really has, what about forgiveness? What Imus said is ignorant, stupid and crude. What Jesse Jackson said about New York being "hymietown" is ignorant, stupid and crude. Reverand Al needs not to be even considered in the role of leader, as I am a rocket scientist....Come on BE REAL. If you really want to offend, pick out an old Richard Pryor album from the seventies and watch the hairs on your neck stand up.

Mahogany, nothing to note about Jesse Jackson and his comments? Nothing to note about Reverand Al and his comments about Duke lacrosse team being "guilty". Let's talk about a rush to judgement! Imus is an idiot, just as young "white folk" and "African-American" stretch out there morals further and further until this country is no more. If we could see a future past the color of ones skin to the content of each others character, this country would be a better place.

But I don't see a future with this kind of thinking.....

Why are you guys keep mixing comedians and rappers with someone who is racist? It you have any black friends, you would know that blacks have been making protests and marches on gansta rap music degrading black women for a long time. My family and friends have discussions all the time how black women are portray negatively in some rap music videos and blacks on TV. The media loves to depict African Americans in a negative light. Not all rap music degrade music. There are some rap music out there with positive messages. When rap first came out it was the voice for the voiceless. Now it all about making money. White folks are buying more rap and hip hop music than any other racial group. In the music and probably the radio business it's all about seeing green. There are white rich executives exploiting talented rappers to perform lyrics with bitc* and ho. I don't listen to music that degrades women and I don't allowed my son too either. I buy the clean version. I heard 80% of gansta rap is brought my white young adults. I guess a lot of white folks like hearing bitc*, ho and the n-word so don't get it twisted. I don't think it's only rap music that degrade women. I also think rock and other types of music do it too. The point is Don Imus is a racist. I believe his show promotes negative racial stereotypes especially about African Americans. Don Imus show "Imus in the morning" is on a public airway making these racist remarks. This is not the first, second, third or fourth time. He is a repeat offender. He has the apologies many times before and said he is going to change his ways. Imus has guidelines to follow in the workplace such as sexual harassment, discrimination and racially insensitive remarks. He needs to go and his as* should be fired. Two weeks suspension is a joke. I am tired of hearing Don Imus excuses just because the rappers do it doesn't make it right. EVERBODY should be outrage by his comments. They were not only racist but sexist too. It not right to degrade women. Don Imus never met these women. A woman who could be your mother, sister, auntie, niece or friend. The Rutgers women's basketball team are young, intelligent, beautiful women. They are our leaders of tomorrow. REAL men need to stand up and say degrading women is not acceptable. It's not a color thing either. It's about standing up for something that is right not wrong. I keep hear people say Don Imus has a right to freedom of speech. I don't think this is true in his case because he is in a workplace environment. We the people have the right to freedom of protest too.

FYI,
People forgive all the time. People still have to pay the consequences for the bad behavior. Imus should be fired.

there are a lot of mitigating factors: 1. What Ann Coulter said wasn't said on the air 2) She doesn't have a radio show to fire her from 3) Her comments were about a presidential candidate; i.e., a public figure, whereas Imus' were about private citizens 4) She is a woman, and institutions have to walk a very thin tightrope when dealing punitively with women. In this country, we just don't know how to hold women accountable, so we usually give them a pass. 5) What Imus said was about the ultimate victim class in this country - women. Nobody has mastered the "art" of victimhood better than women, though they largely exploit their victimhood with the collective guilt and sympathy of men.

All of this talk about how bad Imus is and that people like him perpetrate racism. I don't know what to think. I laughed when I heard what Imus said. But I never thought that what he said was true. The controversy has sparked conversation and some rethinking on both my part and my husbands. I attributed the remark to like saying the opposing team in football are a bunch of pansies. I disagree that Imus and others like him are the root of racism.
While talking to my 13 year old black neighbor, I discover that he thinks black girls are cheaters and you can't trust them. They chase after a lot of different guys. He explained that's why he has a white girlfriend.
He's never heard of Imus. I asked him. So where does he get a demeaning attitude about black women?

After reading what people posted about the Imus fiasco, here is what I think:

The "Freedom of Speech" claim:
Many claims it is just his opinion, and his right to freedom of speech. To me, an opinion is "I like apple more than oranges.". To refer to a group as "nappy headed hoes" is just slander because you would then have to prove that they are all indeed hoes. Just as a journalist cannot write something in the newspaper that is not true, else they risk getting sued. However, if Imus said, "I don't like nappy headed hoes" then I think that would constitute as an opinion and that should be okay.

The "Rappers said it too" claim:
Same goes with rappers, if they say something in the context of an opinion, then that is okay. If they direct it to someone or a group, then they too have to be held accountable for what they rap.

The "Other races have nappy hair too" claim:
If I am not mistaken, the fuss is about the whole phrase "nappy headed hoes" but rather then the word "nappy" itself. The whole phrase would probably translate to "those girls with nappy hair on their heads are hoes". True that they might have nappy hair, but they are not hoes (unless proven so). Doesn't matter what race have nappy hairs. Calling them "hoes" without prove is what is derogatory.

First of all, Kasidy, you need to pull your head out of your cornhole before you open your pie hole. The producer is the one who made the "jiggaboo" comment, not Imus. And it was pretty ignorant to say that if you fail to condemn him then you too are a racist.I don't think of myself as a racist, however I do feel there is definately a double standard when it comes to racism. If a black man were to call a white basketball team a bunch of honkys. it wouldn't even be on the news. While I agree that it isn't right what Imus said, why is nobody focusing on the producer's comment? I just don't get why Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson are so quick to jump in when there's any hint of racism aimed towards the black community, but they're nowhere to be found when racism targets other races. Ice Cube said it best when he told Jesse Jackson "Pay your child support, put a rubber on." He needs to worry about fixing his life before he worries about trying to fix everyone else's lives.

Not a thing. The complaints emanating from the black "leaders" such as the good Rev's Al and Jesse are hugely hypocritical and frankly a total joke. While Imus is an idiot for saying something like that on air, the uproar from the nappy headed community at large is hilarious!!

If Don Imus was still hired would you compare his comment to the black rappers? The rappers and Don Imus are both using a derogatory statement; in this case about women. Remember Imus' former sponsors would look really bad if they continued to support him and thus, his comment. It's all about money. Both Imus and the rappers need take responsibility for their degrading words and phrases. And I also agree that both parties are to blame.

The most revealing thing about this whole story was the way the Reverend Al Sharpton belittled this man on national TV, even asking Mr. Imus the question: "Why should I forgive you?" Well Mr. Reverend, don't you know what Jesus (the One you claim to follow) said about forgiving others? Or are you just another one of those religious, two-faced hypocrites, a modern-day Pharisee? What the apostle Paul said is true: "They blaspheme God because of you." (Romans 2:24)

Ten wrongs don't make a right. I dislike rap, I dislike Imus, I dislike all the filthy things that come out of most comedians mouths these days. Any time any one of them can be eliminated, is fine by me. And yes, I do hold an older, supposedly educated man, who is being broadcast live on morning t.v., to higher standards than some illiterate rap singer.
