It really depends on what you're looking for in a dog. Do you want one that sheds a lot (it seems some small dogs such as Pugs and Min Pins shed a lot) or would you prefer something with longer hair like a poodle or maltese that doesn't shed much or something with longer hair that needs to be groomed such as a Shih Tzu or Pomeranian. I have seen so many people get dogs such as Shih Tzu from a pet store because they are cute puppies. Then they won't take the time to brush them or have them clipped short so they are one bit mat.

On top of that do you want a calm dog, energetic, etc. There are just so many different kinds of dogs. If you go to the AKC website you can do a questionaire and they will recommend some dogs.

Please do not buy at a petstore. They usually come from puppy mills. Otherwise go to your local animal shelter. There are so many dogs there that just want a home and to be loved it just breaks my heart.

Good luck in whatever you decide!

It's not to little of a dog, but none the lest I think a Pembroke Welsh Corgi would be best. Some people say that they arent good dogs, but they are the sweetest loyalist dogs I have ever met. They dont have any tails to step on (brings down the worry level), they are hurding dogs so they always look out for you when I see my bigger corgis making sure the little puppys dont get into trouble or get hurt I just melt, they are loyal, they are so unique you'll be one of the only people you know who has one, the queen has some, they look like no other dog, little kids ask you if they are weiner dogs and you can tell them "no it's a corgi" they will sit there with a weird expresion on there face, they have a very cute walk, they have fluffy chest and last but not least, they will sleep in cages with no hasle.

From one of the worlds biggest corgi lover KIPHA!

I think the best lilttle dog to get is a Chihuahua. I have had 3 in the past. They have a long life span. One of mine lived to be 17, and another 19, but my last one died 2 yrs ago at the age of 8, congested heart failure, which sometimes are prone to get, They are very lovable and true companions.

well it really depends on your activity level, daily schedule, requirements, and if you can provide all the needs for a certain breed of dog! look up different breeds, research them, then see which one is right for you, otherwise i suggest getting one from a shelter! YOU CAN GET A GREAT COMPANION AND SAVE ITS LIFE TOO!!

you want the truth from me ,,,,,,,,,don't get a chihuahua personally they are yappy ,,they bite your ankles, they are not good for children under 8, cant drop them by accident ,,small bones can crack easily, have to keep warm in the winter, high maintenance, and as you can see i personally don't like them but this is my opinion. The best little dog is a dog that you rescued or took in, regardless of how it looks or what his genetics are. That is true love.
