If you have a Bible read 1 Peter Chapter 4 verse 17 The time we are living in, the great tribulation reflects to why many Christians do not attend church too much anymore. We sense that the Holy Spirit is being taken out. You can also read Matthew Chapter 24, Daniel 9, 2 Thessalonians chapter 2. Churches have been falling and the only reason can be that apostasy is in them. This has been a gradual falling away over the past fifty years or more but I remember years ago there were these TV evangelists and others crying to "send us money" or we will have to shut our doors and this is still going on today, so they are teaching things to please the church members rather than the truth. They don't want to lose members. Priests, pastors aren't preaching the true Gospel ( they have created their own religion and church laws) or highlight only parts of the Bible that sound good and comforting and preach that. I used to do that too but I read now and listen to the whole Bible as much as I can. Love the Lord your God with your whole heart, soul and mind .You can eat meat on Friday even during lent, thats a denial of of Christ coming to earth as the sacrificial Lamb of God from "that "churches foundation, nowhere in the Bible does it teach not to eat meat on Friday or any day for that matter. Check www.BibleGateway.com. you can read the whole Bible from there in different translations and languages. The New King James Version is easier to read and there is a link you can click on for a commentary of the chapter on thelinks above the word Update that can help you understand more. God never changes He lets the ways of man go when they disobey Him, Romans 1 ,Psalm 2. The churches are coming under the wrath of The Lamb who is also The Lion from the tribe of Judah > Jesus Christ the Son of God who came in the flesh. In the last days Satan will come in the appearance as an angel of light (imitating Christ) and will deceive many, God's own elect if possible Jesus warned.Read any Gospel and compare it to any other book in the Bible and you will see and hear Christ all through it. God Bless and I pray that I have helped you or someone else reading this.

Well some people are raised in church, then they get away from it. They still believe in God, but they know they aren't living up to the standards of the faith. They feel guilty about it, and don't want to be convicted on past behaviors. They also don't want to be labeled as a hypocrit among their non-Christian friends. Plus, it's so easy not to go. It doesn't require any effort to skip. But, it doesn't stop there. Many of these people don't pray, or read their bibles. They don't attempt to flee sin and feel perfectly comfortable acting like everyone else around them.

The real question is: Why do anyone still call them Christians?

No atheist here! You will love this answer. Wanted to be a Lutheran minister once back in the late 50s. Yep, I'm approaching the fossile stage of life! Read on. Haven't gone to "church" in years. However I will be tomorrow because I have finally come to grips with my faith. My problem has always been "Form vs Reason". I simply can't stand the rote liturgy. It's the same week after week. How does that get us closer to God? It doesn't. If preachers got back to the basics of what the early congregations were meant to be, perhaps the human element would be eliminated and the spiritual element would prevail as it should. As for me, I decided to ignore the politics & rote and concentrate on any truth that manages to break through human constraints.

Within the various faith communities residing in the U.S., Christians are the most consistent church goers. A majority of the adults (61%) who are associated with a faith other than Christianity had not attended any type of religious service in the past half-year. In fact, people aligned with a faith other than Christianity are two-and-a-half times as likely as self-designated Christians to be unchurched (61% versus 24%, respectively).

I think prosperity plays a big role too. People tend to forget about God once they're having a prosperous and successful life. Just have a look at South America's Christians. Seems like they all go to church!

I believe that people who hose who don't regularly attend church (which these days is a very broad term) and aren't a witness on a constant watch for the redeemable, are one of tow things.
Either apathetic to all that Christ has done for them or simply do not comprehend all that he has done. I think it is basically cut and dry. You are one or the other either unaware or you just don't care.

It's hard to find a good church, for one. "judge not lest ye be judged" unfortunatly doens't seem to be followed in some churces. One's relationship with God is personal and some don't care to share this in a group.
Some people just have to work on Sunday.
