Well, I first will say that I don't believe that there are that many more women than men. If you go to World Factbook for almost any country you'll see that it is almost always 50/50. The only time it strays away from this ratio is with human intervention. So...knowing that i think this is a b.s. reason why people "have" to marry more than 1 person. I personally would throw myself off a cliff before marrying some guy with 3 other wives.

Neither; it's a false dichotomy. My best friend is a widow, and I expect that she will remain unmarried; she is anything but a public property as she is quite wealthy. People in the western countries seem to have enough trouble dealing with one wife, let alone more, based on the divorce statistics. In any event, the Qur'anic prescription is false because the book is erroneous, so it won't take root in the US.

Become public property? Why? If there were more men than women, would unmarried men become public property?
It's possible to simply remain unmarried.
A lot of career women today are not even interested in marriage.

I would opt for one man, one woman for myself. I'd rather be independent than share a man with other women. If your culture says this is okay and it's okay with the women then go for it. American culture, other than the Mormons, does not condone polygamy so it is not widely accepted. Many American women are advanced enough to not depend on a man for financial stability. Although pay scales are still not fair to women, America provides opportunities for women and the confidence to not accept being part of a herd.

I'm one of them lucky women to already be married, but if I had to choose I stayed single because there is no way I'd become public property and I'm the jealous kind and could never share my man.

the best solution would be for the value of being a woman to be elevated
it is indeed sad to hear of Chinese baby girls abandoned on the streets... but I'm glad to hear in the rural parts of China many resourceful parents left their daughteres unregistered'
it is indeed sad to hear as you suggest sometimes in India baby girls are aborted
I agree that sometimes the lesser of two evils may be picked... but I think there might be yet better but perhaps hard choices... women being respected and valued and living with dignity even if unmarried
frankly single women do better on their own than single men do... speaking as a man... men tend to get more eccentric if they live by themselves and women seem to handle it better

In australia if you marry more than one person it is called bigamy and you can go to jail, i bellieve if you are going to marry someone you make a comitment to that person and that person only, why would you want more than one wife to support?, over here we are equal in a relationship, i dont know how it works in other countries but if you sleep with someone else whilst you have a wife your more than likely going to get your balls cut out by her, its called cheating or being unfaithful, when you get married you make a vow to be with that one person for ever!!!!!

Um...what? Unmarried women have to become "public property"? How do you figure? How about option 3 - women are no one's property but our own?
